Hi - I'M A NEW OWNER OF A 1.8 K SERIES FREELANDER!:)

I've heard a lot of history about this vehicle:eek: - what I do know is that in 2006, it had a cylinder head and upgrade to thermostat and oil rails

What chance is there of problems of head gasket returning?

Ohterwise it starts, goes ok. I've done 120 miles without problem - is that an achievement?

I notice there is a rover gearbox - I used to own an MG Montego - It feels remarkably similar to that gearbox - is there a similarity?

Lord knows - I aint a fan of the ****ty Hippoos, but if yu had a new head, gasket, thermostat and oil rail, you stand as good a chance as any of not suffering HGF - but its the luck of the draw - just start saving, just in case.

Mine has the newer gasket and oil rail. Covered 17K since rebuild and running very well.

Yep - PG1 gearbox did start out in Maestro and Montego. Freelander has different bell housing (to mate to different engine) and uses needle roller bearing on differential opposed to ball race found in monty.

10 years ago I had a montego estate - bought it for £50!! and lasted 9 months before it was hit and written off. Insurance paid out £1000 :)

Regards,

Steve
