Hi Chaps,

Ive just bought a 2001 Vogue and I'm compiling a list of jobs:

1. One of the keys, the lock button appears to work but the unlock button doesnt, is this a dead micro switch and best to send it of for repair?
2. Showing an ABS fault and Traction Fault on the message center on startup, no ABS light or TC light on the dash, is this a loose ABS sensor?
3. Weirdly, the gear selector is nice and smooth when cold but appears to be quite firm after a run, it was a 60 mile drive back home, all the way in D of course. Only when I dropped into a petrol station did I notice that was quite firm to get back into P. Same back into D for the trip home and then P of course. I might be imagining it but is there something that would cause this?
4. Nav doesnt work, I suspect the nav computer is unplugged but it is present. Again is this best just send away for repair job?

2). Odd the MC is showing fault but the lamps are off.....do the come on as a bulb check when you turn the ignition on, if yes...check battery condition, fault messages come from the BeCM, so check for damp carpets.....if no, someone has removed the lamps or covered them over to mask a fault, time for diagnostics.

3) Possible cable adjustment issues, classics used to have issues of the cable and/or handbrake cable earthing and melting the inner plastic sleeve to the cable outer making them stick. Check the adjusment and also check the engine earth strap(s).

4) Possible unplugged, non-user servicable unit, send off for repair is possible.

2) Yeah bit worried about that actually, I didnt notice it look any different than I would expect. I'm not at home tonight so cant check but lets hope it does display the lights on the dash. I did wonder about the battery but it starts very strongly and cleanly. There is a receipt for a

3 The gear selection seems nice and easy when its cold, weird if its melting the sleeve as you would think it would be firm all the time. I'll get a garage to get it on the ramp and have a look.

4) For the nav, am I correct in thinking its just a BMW MK3 CD Nav, is the disk that makes it "land rover" or is the software within the nav computer different?

I will add to the list:

5) She seems to run a couple of needles widths on the cool side. Dead central whilst sat at idle, but whilst loafing up the motorway I noticed the coolant temp was slightly cool. I was only doing 60mph or so and the outside temperature was about freezing so I suppose it can be excused and I would rather it be slightly cool than to hot. But are we thinking starting of a failing thermostat?

6) CD Changer doesnt appear to eject/work. I have a couple from BMW's in stock as I see it looks like a standard BMW/Alpine changer to me, is that the case?

7) Headlining a bit crap in the rear above the load space, not much I can do other than try and pin it up is there? (other than replace it!)

8) Cruise control vacuum hoses are mainly missing, and there is an audible air/vacuum leak from the plenum. Is that vacuum port for the cruise actuator? Need to fire up a copy of rave if its in there.

9) Book icon on the climate control, although seems to work better than my old one which had no book icon!! I'm going to try relay 7 when I get home tomorrow to see if that helps. Not sure if the aircon works. Not much I can do with this without diagnostics is there?

4) the nav in the P38 I believe is a Philips or CARiN unit.....pull the drive out there might be a manufacturers label on it.

5) Monitor....could be nothing, could be the stat is missing, although on a P38 V8 the stat is built into a odd shaped housing in the bottom radiator hose....not impossible to remove the internal valve, but a lot of hassle!

6) not sure, again look for a manufacturers label.

7) pinning in place, staple!!, spray on glue!

8) the Cruise Vacuum is generated by a small electric pump I believe.

9) Diagnostics is your best bet, other than that it will be elimination.

Thanks mate. Much appreciated as ever, will have a look tomorrow and see what I can find!

Temp seems normal. When I came back from London on the 1st I had the same, was just the really cold air. I get the same just now too driving around. In the summer it stays almost bang on 12 o'clock

Good to hear mate. Thanks! To be fair my old one seemed "heavier" more drag etc, I struggled to get 20mpg out of it on a run. This one was effortless and managed 22mpg without really trying, she feels so much better than the other one.

So the list continues.

Compressor also now making a row.... I'm beginning to think I might have bought a bad one.

The abs traction control issues delve deeper, as suggested the abs and tc lights don't light up with the ignition. I'm annoyed at my self for not noticing this as it's something I always tell people to do! Excitement I suppose... Anyway having has it on a fancy garage snap on code reader it says rear left abs sensor is at fault. Could it be this simple?

In other news I unlocked it with the fob went to garage, got home it now won't lock with the fob so I'm reduced to locking it with the key for now. It was saying key battery low I had ordered some but it must have been really low!

Aye PO tells me he rebuilt compressor week or two ago I wonder if he's just tightened it down to much.

In other news, sat nav was disconnected as I thought. It's goosed and just loads and ejects the disk ever couple of minutes, even so unlucky that the screen has damage as well. Brilliant!

Bit down actually not sure what I was thinking I have a busy job and a young baby never going to have time to mess with another Range Rover.

Wouldn't be down about it, just remember what they're like when working :)

Get the new compressor from Kurt. I bought one, makes life easier. As for the rest, it's just piddly stuff that can be sorted in due course.

Chin up!

Thanks fellas. Yeah it starts and drives well, the radio works and it's only errors on the mc are traction and abs failure and currently low screen wash haha. It locks and unlocks and the hvac pretty much blows warm air where I want it to. And the glove box opens... It sits level over night and responds to the height selection.

This is group therapy... List what works it makes the broken list look better. Just ordered vacuum hose to repair cruise, batteries for keys and buttons and abs sensor for the rear.

One day at a time!

Right another thing, on the top of the inlet manifold in the throttle body 'tube' there is a vacuum hose/fitting on mine it's not connected to anything and so has an audible air leak. What should be connected to where?
