am looking at fitting a mechanical winch to my td5 defender any tips can't find much on the net about how they fit any info would be much appreciated cheers.

Are you looking at hydraulic or one run from the PTO?
On the 110 no provision was made for a PTO to the front end, although it is possible to fit a drive directly to the rear of the gearbox, allowing a winch to be fitted to the rear of the vehicle.
Personally, I would consider a Warn electric winch mounted on the front end, as that would be the simpler option.
Hope this makes sense.

Reason i wont a pto winch is there is always someone burnning there winch out on the hard trips the 4wd club dose but is always an old toyota with pto winch on that can sit on the other side of a big bog and winch all day with no trouble
