Hi all,
I've just had my belt changed on my td4 engine as the largest one started to tear.. Anyways everythings working fine but I'm noticing that occasionally 2 yellow warning lights (one of HDC and one of TC) are lighting up for a few secons and then turning off but not blinking.. Any idea, as I've read on the manual that it could be an overheating signal of the brakes (I admit that right now here in Malta it's going up to 40*C) but it should only be manifested with blinking lights and not still..

99.9% Positive that the problem is a faulty brake switch - it's a very comon problem and is easily/quickly sorted at little cost.

Any decent garage could do the work for you. It's a replacement part job. It's usually the brake switch and less often the HDC switch on the gear stick. I would expect to pay £50 or less and you could probably wait while they did it.

Do get it sorted though, especially if you use HDC.

Is it the one located on the pedal box and under the fascia? I found that it can fail due to 1) Switch open circuit 2) Short circuit to 12 or 5 volts 3) Short circuit to earth.

Yeah under the dash above the pedal, it could be any of those you listed or could just be poorly fitted. But my guess is it's faulty and will need replacing. Depending on your experience and confidence you may decide to do it yourself?!

I find that with faulty brake pedal switches that more often the lights come on and stay on just after the pedal is depressed although not always the case.

yes its a common gaylander problem ,go into search its bin documented un best oh luck earthling. . . .:)

I just confirmed that it has to do with the break pedal as everytime its lightning up I press once the pedal and both of the lights go off...I will give that a check with a voltmeter and check for continuity..thanks pals.

Ming speaks earth truth, Land Rover recalled stacks of motors because of this fault.

Was this an official recall? If so, does anyone know what model years were recalled? My car has a very occasional problem (3 times in 2 months) with these lights coming on when you press the brake pedal. Next time you press the brake pedal they go out again. Was going to ignore it/eventually get a new switch but an official recall would be nice...

Can't see anything on the AA website

Cheers
