Good evening all,
I recently discovered two disconnected connectors on my P38 4.6 HSE, Gems, Auto gearbox, LHD.

One is under the fuse box and the other under the expansion tank. See attached pictures.

I’ve done a search on the electric manual but I’m not an expert and I have no idea what those connectors are for. As everything works (at the moment;)) I’m reluctant to connect them and see what happens before knowing who they are exactly.
Any ideas?

Maybe this two problems are related (maybe not):

1. I read fault codes with my Hawkeye and it shows me (only) a P0340 code: Camshaft position sensor. Odd is that I can’t clear the fault.

2. The check engine light never come up. She is supposed to stay a couple of seconds when you turn the ignition on? Isn’t she?
Many thanks in advance for your help.

Not sure what those connectors but will have a look on mine in the morning. Regarding the cam position sensor I suggest you check the connections to the sensor. If the fault won't clear it likely means that it is a solid fault so either sensor is disconnected / dirty connector or the sensor is actually failed. Fingers crossed it isn't the latter as they are expensive little buggers.

I'd also have a look to see if there's a bulb in the engine check light.
Previous owner's bodge to hide the fault?

On your second photo it looks like your alarm sounder is missing which might explain the unconnected terminals. I have attached a photo of the same area on mine for comparison. It also looks like your brake pump and resovior are missing too.

Thank you very much to all of you for your replies. It was a huge help.

Check engine light problem sorted. The bulb was shot.

Camshaft sensor: I had a quick look this morning but there is a lot of pulleys and other stuff in this area. I know where the sensor should be but couldn’t find it. Can the sensor be seen without disassembling anything? I’ll have a better look at it this evening.

JT you are absolutely right. The alarm siren is missing. I checked the electric manual and the 2 connectors in the 2nd pictures are C178 (white plug, white and purple/red wires) and C179 (black plug, black and purple/white wires). Looking at Microcat I see that the alarm siren has a connector which separate in 2 plugs (Part AMR 5423). So it can only be this one. Great.

No ideas why the previous owner has removed the siren. Maybe problems with the alarm sounding all the time? Battery drain issue? Maybe hoping it would be easier to get the Rangie stolen and get money from his insurance and buy a L322? But why remove and not only disconnect ?

No worries. No brake pump and accumulator missing.:crazy_driver: It’s just Left Hand Drive. They are on the other side close to the EAS valve block.

So now, the only unidentified connector is the white one under the expansion tank (with and purple/red wires, picture n°1)? Could someone please have a look under his tank to see what’s plugged in?

I searched for the camshaft sensor. This time from under the car and I got a result. The red wire is hanging out completely broken. :5back2: I bet Hawkeye cannot clear the fault. “New” used sensor ordered.

One last issue to go (at the moment). What is the white connector under the expansion tank for?
