Hi Everyone,

I have recently bought a '96 Discovery XS 300tdi. I got a secondhand 2" lift kit which comprises of 4 pro-comp shocks and 4 pro-comp or Bearmach springs.
I fitted the kit no problem, but the back end is sitting slightly lower than the front. When I bought the springs, I asked if there was any particular orientation and I was told it didn't matter. The springs are all the same length and the same coil thickness, but the back end feels a bit softer than the front. I do not know if the springs need swapping around, front-back, or shall I just insert some spacers in the rear (which I have already made), or will that be the wrong way to go?
Any advice much appreciated
Thanks, Dale

Nobody questions jamesmartin!!!

But tbh I thought it was because the rear was heavier. Who knows?! :D (apart from resident expert)

P.s. Jamesmartin, do you make up your wise facts just to baffle us idiots? :D

i learnt years ago fitting lift springs after doing the same myself ,front of truck is actually heavier by quite a bit ,ive wieghed them ,and dont turn into mr trouble :)

rear springs should be taller than fronts ,because of angle of front axle blokes a fool:)

The OE springs I took off were different lengths, but I'm pretty sure the fronts were taller (but probably a different rating)

The car is now just sitting slightly arse end down. Does it look like I've ended up with basically 4 rear or 4 front springs, as they all seem the same.

If the front end is heavier, and its sitting higher, would it make sense to swap the springs around, and hopefully level it out, or as the springs all seem the same, would I be right back where I started?

worth a try , is there any numbers on springs they are often stamped somewhere, and its not unusual to get four of a kind from bearmach sometimes

does that take into account the fookin great engine at the front or is a tank of fuel heavier:rolleyes:

Eh pal, not so fast! I wasn't sure whether the huge amount more bodywork at the back might weigh more than the engine! How do I know, just have a wild imagination! :D

And don't worry jamesmartin, was just giving you a little tickle, nothing serious :p

My springs for the rear are higher and I believe the fronts are stronger. I would check but they are in the garage and I am in my jarmies. Yeah I know it's early but I am a fat bastard and starting the gym tomorrow at 6:30am so need to get an early night.

Anyhow the Discovery has about a 65/35 weight distribution to the front when un laden and then you add in the factor that when bouncing up and down the momentum of the front end is greater than the rear you will see that a spring at the front of equal length to the rear would need to have a higher/ stiffer spring rate.

I think that makes sense but if jamesmartin disagrees I won't be the one to argue - I will post to say that I got this info from Mr Noisy - you know that little upstart who likes bogging.............
