2" Lift kit question calling all you off roaders

In a nutshell....here goes.....

To lift the axles you fit higher side wall tyres.

To lift the engine, gearbox and body of a D2 and accomodate the higher tyres you fit spacers between the springs and the axle.

Quite rightly the prop will hit the D2 cross member but the TD5 prop is extended with a cardon joint at the box end so shouldn't really be too much of an issue unless the axle drops and the prop then sits on the crossmember.

Can't remember if the anti roll bars stop the travel before the props sits on the crossmember.

But a D2 with fat tyres, wheel spacers and a 2" lift looks quite chunky.

Anyway.....back to my suntan. ahhhhhhhhhhh lovely. (P.S all the above might be the result of sunstroke so put your flamethrowers away.)

Thanks for the advice i was starting to think this forum was more about criticism than helping out fellow land rover owners

I do have a second set of wheels with off road tyres for laning and p+p days that have a larger diameter but when id mentioned ground clearance in my past post it was more related to approach and departure angles as the discovery has got a rear overhang issue ive also got a discreet winch fitted but that makes it a bit on the low side so it acts as a plough
hence the fitting of the lift kit

After looking at it i dont think it would be a problem unless i got it airbourne just thought as it was a brit part kit they must of sold loads of them and someone may of had a issue but im guessing by the replys it will be fine

You really should remove the tow bar as no matter what you do it will plough the ground up.

Unless of course you use it alot.

Only bought the discovery as a tow car and a second car for my wife as she liked it and she wont use any of my cars
And found myself using it for more than just road use
So it needs to be a comprise the stuff I've done to it so far have made it a bit better off road but not changed the way it drives on road
I was going to get a tank guard with removeable tow bar but looking at it if I take it off all together I'd end up ripping off the rear step and then bumper
So that will do for the mods for now

I have replaced the bolts on my heavy duty tow hitch with fresh ones. Well greased and will undo with relative ease. I have introduced a second plug in the tow light cable so that the whole assembly comes away in a few minutes.
I do find however that the D2 is a bit soft, protectionwise, on the rear end and now have a bumper that sits at an angle.

I'm looking at getting a receiver hitch so I can just remove the ball and drop down bracket
That way I can leave the main bracket on the chassis and remove the rest by pulling out a pin

Can you share with me your thoughts please and any recommended places to purchase the kit from. My pops is a car mechanic to fitting it shouldn't be a prob???

Hi the kit I bought was a full Brit part kit came with front springs all four shocks all four longer brake pipes and spacer kit for the rear air bags
But after fitting it I'd say save the money and just get the springs and spacers ( if you have air suspension on the rear) if not just get the springs

Be careful with big wheels if you intend to keep your front bumper looking nice.
