has any one thought of putting a 2.9v6 24v ina freelander. in the scrappy today & saw one, granada, doesnt look to hard, a good engineer could sort the drive shafts, cut the tunnel, fit rear diff, bit of plumbing, got me thinking now & even better the one i saw had a gas conversion so probally better on petrol & 200 plus horsepower.

it will be inline not transverse getting rid of the ****e k-series & even more ****e viscous coupling, permenant 4 wheel drive & lsd. it will be a summer project as ive just taxed the freelander & need to find a complete car as the scrappy wont sell the car complete & i want the lot so ive got the loom ect ect.

surely you're starting from the wrong place using a freelander, if you've got to scrap everything in the drivetrain.

got to be an easier way ?

Do you plan on buying a 4 wheel drive ford granada or sierra even to transplant the whole 4 wheel drive transmission or have some other plan. Just thinking that if you go inline you'll need some way of getting drive out to the front wheels & also some centre diff.
Unlike some others here, I do genuinely find this interesting & hope you go ahead & succeed with it. If you do, I think the Ford V6 would make a reliable powerful choice. Also would be concerned about the physical length of the new engine/gbox mounted in the Freelander though it must be possible as I've once seen a Range Rover chassis with a Freelander body mounted on it. Think it was Mad Hat Man who posted the picture of it.
I do hope you work it all out & go for it if it's feasable.

the plan will be to put the engine box front & rear diff mated to the freelander driveshafts thus eliminating the complete landrover drivetrain.
ive done some measurements & i will go on but ill have to make a subframe for the front. using the auto box i dont have to worry about the gear stick lining up. looking at it will need very minimal cutting of the bulk head if any. an other possibility is an audi v6 quattro set up but i like the ford power plant

So it'll definitely be a 4 wheel drive Ford you'll want then. They did a Sierra XR4x4 which had either the earlier 2.8 or later 2.9 v6 (not exactly sure) & I think there was a 4 wheel drive Granada but I don't know how easy they are to come by now.
