2.5 starting from cold help pls!!!

This may be a stupid question but all my mates have petrol and mine is diesel!!Here goes when cold after I use glow plugs and turn to key to start should it fire straight away or is it normal to churn abit before it fires (2.5 n/a) sorry if this abit thick but never had a diesel one more thing is it foot on accelerator or not! thanks

Pre-warm for 10 secs..try to start..do not touch accelerator until it starts..ever.

just a quick update(about poor starting)took the beast to garage (twice)had glow plugs check,diesel pump refurbed ,still won't start then went back to garage (they started it first time) turns out worn wire from the ignition ,start 's like a dream now!!!!
