2.5 just blew up

So just went to the fuel station and on the way back the bloody thing blew a hole through the sump bottom end just went no knocking noise or anything just went bang. Every time I fix something, something else goes wrong. Any reason why this could of happened. Could it be my fuel pump was to Farr advanced as I changed that last week.

Did you check your dip stick to see if you had engine oil.

wheres the hole at the front ?

2.5 bmw td lump. The hole is at the front. Engine oil was at the correct level.

could be timing chain

Just had new chains. Engine still runs.

The con rod doesn't appear to have broke so what could of happened.

its hard to tell from the pics but it looks like some things got in the way of the crank

Thats exactly what was thinking. Because normally you get a lot of rattling/knocking before the bottom end goes. But this just went without warning.

lets see some pics when the sump comes off

Ok so I have found out what happened, one of the heads of the inlet valves have snapped off. Has this happened to anyone else?

How would that make a hole through the sump, same thing else is a miss there as well.

I'm guessing it's smashed the piston and part of it has gone under the crankshaft causing it to be forced through the sump.

ive seen some bimetal valve heads drop off on ford tractors,but in lrs its allways been piston hitting valve that ive seen
