Hi all.

Today I visited a diesel specialist for some insight on a strange noise I'm having in my 2.5DSE and the first thing he pointed out was the crankshaft pulley that is "shaking". If you look at it from the side of the car you can see it move as if there's some axial play in it
I had already replaced the pulley damper some time ago and it kept doing this so I had myself conviced that it was fine
Now, my question is what could be causing it ? Could there be some play in the crankshaft or a bad bearing ? What's the best way to go around diagnosing this ?

If there was enough play in a crank bearing to make your pulley shake you would have one seriously fooked engine.

OK, uploaded a small video to youtube. Seeing it on screen doesn't make it look as worse as I thought.

What do you guys think of it ?

Before you go ripping the engine to bits check that the damper and pulley are correctly aligned and torqued fully. If that was end float it definately wouldn't be so quiet.
