Hi,

Had the cylinder head test and is outside the tolerance in RAVE and it says it cannot be skimmed, I am awaiting full results tomorrow.

Seen various posts just wanted ask everyone's opinion on it?

Thanks,

Just had a call and I need a new head. Cracked beyond repair.

Anyone know best place to source apart from ebay?

Some heads are drilled to take either manifold.

There was an interim head that had both stud patterns cast in. But most pre 1997 heads will only take the alloy manifold as there are no positions for the plastic manifold in the casting. After 1998 there are no alloy manifold positions in the casting. But on the interim heads with both patterns cast in only studs for the manifold fitted from the factory are drilled and tapped. If you wanted to fit the other manifold you would have to drill and tap them yourself.

They are drilled and tapped on mine, at least the ones I can see easily are, I'll have to have a closer look further back.

Maybe the manifold has been changed. I replaced a cracked head on a 1997 manual a few years ago. That head did not have cast in positions for both types of manifold, only the alloy one would fit. On the second hand head that the nephew obtained to replace it, there were both manifold positions cast in. But only the alloy manifold positions were drilled and tapped. The plastic manifold could have been fitted to that, but it would have needed drilling and taping and obviously different studs. Maybe there are variations i have not seen every head that came out of the factory. ;)
