2 1/4 petrol 5 bearing has a water lelak, whats the hole for??!?

hi guys.
i have just got a 2 1/4 petrol 88 running after a priod of being stood.
however, it seemes to have a water leak from the water pump.

the water pump when looking from below appears to hav a small hole drilled into it, (?) and this is where the water is comming from..

is it best to replace the water pumop as a whole or can seal kits be purchased or is there a quick fix?

if bearing seal fails hole lets water out,to keep brg dry and lets you know its failed can be fixed with new brg and seal kit but really need press to fit new pump isnt expensive
