Ive just bought an 02 disco 2 and having overheating problems. When looking at the wiring under the steering column i seen a connector block hanging loose. Can someone please tell me where this is suppoesed to connect to. I have looked for anywhere it would fit without removing any of the plastics but can't see anything

What are the symptoms... I bought mine, and a brand new Nanocom. Didn't realise that you could change the settings on the Nanocom, to trigger the overheating warning, until after I bought a new thermostat and radiator.... There was nothing wrong with either...

Drives fine for about 20 minutes then temp guage drops to nothing and the red light comes on.
 
When its at normal temp, the top hose is hot and and has pressure but the bottom hose is still cold. Ive now way to measure the coolant temp
 
That was normal in mine. Rad wasnt getting hot at all all over either, just at the top ... which is why I suspected it was blocked or overheating.
 
I replaced a perfectly good radiator, and a thermostat. And the "overheating" fault on my nanocom still kept on coming up. I just changed the setting on the Nanocom to a higher temp warning, as it was set to 91c, which was way to low. I have a laser temp sensor I use for work which confirmed the temperature of the engine and coolant was around 86-89c which is perfectly fine.

I really cant understand why your temp gauge drops to nothing, unless its faulty.
 
Are you losing water? If you are, the temp gauge might drop to nothing cos it is no longer actually sitting in water as it's leaked away! If you are not losing water then you may have an airlock, TD5s are a bit particular about how you fill em up and it ain't all that obvious. I expect the Haynes Manual or RAVE will go into detail about how to fill it, but if you've fitted it properly, I too would be keen to set up a different means of actually measuring the real temperature.
Not sure about this but I think the red light is switched on by an ECU or something, not the temp sender, which is notoriously not very accurate.
Not a genius at electrickery, others on here much better than me will tell you.
