Hi all I have just bought a LHD 1984 Defender 90 from Netherlands, its a special edition "Hurricane" there is precious little on the web about this model and would love to hear peoples thoughts or any links to information.

Its to be a rolling project and bit of fun!

OK so from now on I will refer to the motor as a 90 not a defender, but then I'm more interested in how it runs and what it looks like rather than what its called, anyway I'm thinking of calling it hurry so there you go.

Anyways any ideas on the origins or anyone ever seen one before. Planning on using it and restoring it to original condition.
 
strange that it has side repeaters, vents on the side of the wings and no lock on the bonnet like other early ones, must have had some changes i guess, what motor is in it?

I suspect it's a County 90 with a few extras added by the Dutch importer/dealer network. They may not have been much, but probably aligned to a UK special edition.
 
I am pleased to say that for the MOT it needs a rear crossmember, body mount and couple of other patches. Wiper blades and indicator non function needs to be addressed but I think that's a trailer electrics and column switch issue.

Best still I have entered into a wager with the Garage owner that if it back within 10 working days he will pay for the MOT test!

Closer inspection now its in the workshop tells me that the upper rear sides are not original (red paint under the blue) and rear door used to be a drop tail gate. looks like this used to be a pick up! Seems the military order story adds up more now.

Still looking for any ideas on how to get info about it!

It does have a lock on the bonnet and I am pretty sure it has a replacement front from bulkhead forward as inside engine bay is green, wings bonnet etc are also green where paint is chipped, the vinyl's on the wings are slightly whiter too.

This would explain the lack of side vents if front is from newer model.

Would you expect the intake to the air cleaner to be attached to a side vent as it is just open with no hose attached?

Engine is a 2249 petrol 4 cylinder runs sweet has 130000KM on Odometer.
 
Where did you buy it. Was it an official car dealer? The white box on top could be to make it legal in the Netherlands for being a van. The boot has to apply to certain measurements.

I find it strange you buy one in the Netherlands as there are so many Dutch companies who import from the UK and sell them here or even convert them to LHD and sell them. The prices here are far, far, very far over the top.

But, I hope you have lot's of fun with it. It is and stay's the way to drive.
