1975 Series 3 Rebuild (The second time around)

Didnt get round to much tonight in the end but did manage to finish tidying up the wirng in the engine bay, only need a couple of P-clips to support the main conduit run on the drivers wing.

Tomorrow evening may be a bit of a marathon event as I'll borrow a few bits. Jobs I shall hopefully get done:

Adjust wing height,
Fit mudshield brackets (swap over from my old wings)
Fit door seals with sikaflex (sticks like **** to a shovel, works extremely well, used on all other door seals to great success)
fit the door stay and my door card
Sort out my arial
Bolt in mudflaps
Fit the NS sidelight properly

And if all that gets done reasonably handy then I may crack open the white undercoat and give everything a coat of that to see how she looks. Will be a good even base for the blue then too which may go on over the weekend

Some of us haven't finished our rebuilds yet and here's you almost done it twice now. I really must get a move on with mine.

Got all of the replacement panels in undercoat last night in preparation for the blue to go on (possibly tonight).

MoT booked for Saturday morning 10AM. Need to get much arsedness to finish the odd jobs before then.

Bolted my mudflaps on tonight and bolted up the wing to the chassis upright plate thingy that goes to the bulkhead. Also hopefully sorted out the leaky sump through nipping up the sump bolts a bit more than they should be. (A quick fix I know but I have a new gasket which ill sort out when i do an oil change.

Only really need to put my door seal on now as well as fit the brackets to take the mudshields before checkerplate.

Larger job is to lift the wing slightly to close the gap between bonnet and wingtop which is rather large.

I was originally going to bend the gear lever so i wouldnt need it but if i did that then it leads on to faffing around with overdrive one.

Slot works well and doesnt look too bad haha. All of my fuses and relays are beneath that panel too as well as a common live and common earth which makes it easy to add in extra electrical equipment

Its a practical solution to a problem!, and it looks fine to me, I quite like it

Well a whole 4 months have passed since the incident but she now has a full mot with no advisories

I would have gone for more of a spin out and about but retired to put my checker plate on to hide my beaten up wing tops



Also if anyone's on Anglesey, the garage in my picture above is very series friendly. He deals in parts too quite cheap.

Had a good bank holiday weekend with the old landy, took her to the garage on Saturday morning to sort out the tracking which was out very slightly and is now spot on, its lovely driving with a centralised steering wheel again! Took it for a spin then with my mates in the back, did about 20 miles in it. Here its at the Holyhead breakwater park, an old quarry/ brickworks.



Monday was better weather so took it for a spin round the southern part of the island, here its at Cable Bay, which is between Aberffraw and Rhosneigr







After that I continued on the road up to Newborough and went for a walk up to Ynys Llandwyn

Been having a bit of experimentation this weekend

Yes the supports are a bit prehistoric in nature but theyre only there for me to get the height to make proper ones



Also fitted my handbrake gaiter properly (its a leather one), already these gaiters have paid for themselves as they last more than a month without splitting and fixed my radio where the crimps had come apart so now have 2 speakers again ;D

Had a couple of issues last week too, my speedo started behaving erratically coming home along the A55, it was slowing down as i sped up and sped up as i slowed down and when i dipped the clutch the needle shot up. This was traced to a loose output flange nut which had sheared its split pin. This was fixed and problem solved, also solved my issue with struggling to get in reverse and theres no clunk anymore

Also when it got very hot after her run, the oil pressure light started to flicker on idle, this was remedied with filling with more oil as it was below the normal mark. Pressure wasnt too low either, checked on the gauge and was reading fine

Just got myself some long needed new springs from GB springs

Made a start today on the offside rear spring which was the worst for sagging and making fuynny noises when going around corners, all the bushes have completely gone, the chassis bush came out no bother when we cut it and collapsed it but the new one was tight to go in. Haven't got a completed pic yet but I've got a few here to show you what I've been up to, I'll do more of a step by step one when I do the next spring.

Also I'll be turning her into a little of camper of sorts over the next few weeks

Set up for doing the pre-load on the bushes. Just doing the one spring has resulted in sorting out my lean (was 3" down on the drivers side, just got the other 3 to do now

Been fiddling with the brake servo tonight, the one that was on it had the pushrod come loose so it was doing funny things to the pedal (pedal was jammed solid to the topand brakes started binding), pulled brake toweroff and swapped servo for a new one and all is good again

I have also got around to finally properly fitting my £100 aeroparts winch which Im happy with, I just have to fabup some drive shaft support brackets. I have had it working by winding it with an electric drill and I can report it runs nice (if a little noisy due to still being on the origina bearings, replacing them is a job for when I can afford new ones) The number plate is a little in the way but I'll sort that when I fit the new number plates.

Brilliant job, a lot of commitment on your behalf and understanding from the other half, she likes the bus too I think?
Reminded me of my 62' 2A I had in the early 90's. Hopefully the last time you'll need to lift the wings!! Job well done sir!!
