1963 2a petrol help

hi just bought a 2a petrol wife was driving home engine lost power for a few seconds picked up again then died accompanied with a loud crack(suspect half shaft snap) engine turns over very freely and quite fast but battery died before it would start. waiting on recovery to deliver.anybody got any ideas so that i can start when she gets home.

take dizzy cap off and see if rotor arn still turns,half shaft wouldnt effect engine

thanks for reply landy now home in burghead charging battery engine turns no checked for spark yet will do with good battery in morning. broke down junc 35 on M6. just doin wee bits at a time as on oxygen and run outa breath guicker than a v8 runs outa petrol.
can.t think what bang was will get motor going and check its what breakdown manny said to wife it washalf shaft, she though the noise was just below or behind her while driving.

update found at least why it wont start. screws have came out backing plate on dizzy and have dissapeared from sight replacing with electronic ignition as to loud crack half shaft bit dramatic just goin by rac comment hopefully a big backfire caused with points being dodgy. not being there when it happened dont help.

new dizzy with electronic ignition fitted, timing set carb set. i now have a landy that runs and the quietest landrover engine ive had. thanks to all who got back to, "til next time" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
