Evening all,
I've been chasing a odd pulsing vibration (oooo er) around my 110's drive chain for a while.. I found play in the front prop and the transfer box output bearing so I've replaced both... It's helped but not solved it.
Now I've found a fairly large amount of play at the rear (salisbury) diff, After looking through the good old haynes I'm stumped... it mentions something about adjustment? Anyone had/done this?

in a diff rotational movement is different from end float allowing flange to move up/down etc,the pinion is supported by two taper bearings and shouldnt have anu endfloat at all it can be adjusted by tightening nut crushing spacer between the bearings but takes some doing and usually takes something longer than 3ft breaker bar to adjust and hold flange,if diff needs adjusting you do need abit of exlerience to tackle salisbury

usually on the 110 the drive flanges and half shafts wear out causing the play . pull the dust caps off the rear wheels and check for movement of the half shaft

thanks for the responces.. The play is end float (up/down/side to side movement) so I dont think the half shafts are the issue (would be if it were roational I guess).
If it's more than a breaker bar job to make the adjustment I think I'll have a quick word with my local 4x4 specialist see how much they will charge to do the adjustment required.

:) Cheers J

ok then . i thought the play was rotational . if the play is as you say and the noise then the bearing is probably bad ,they usually go if the seal leaks and the oil level is low

ah.. the good old leaking seals! that could explain it... as I had to replace the seals and the rear cover plate gasket not long ago.
how bigger job is it to chaneg the bearings? or does it come under the "specialist" job list.

:)

is easy enough if you have the tools and press ,setting preload of pinion isnt that easy as crushable spacer will let you go to far

sorry should have been clear.. hub seal/gaskets and the rear pan gasket.. havn't distubed the flage/pinion set up...so for once it's not my numpty fault ;)
