I'll try this one here. I'm aiming to return to land rover ownership at last. I had a 99 Disco 2 TD5 for a few years and despite a litany of faults (XYZ switch, ACE pipes, water pump, torque converter and head gasket) it was my favourite car. A facelift disco is within my budget. Given the improvements such as sound insulation, fewer squeaks and rattles and especially the steel dowels meaning a lessened chance of it stranding me with a blown headgasket and 4 naffed off passengers like last time, it was initially my pref (even though I prefer the look of the pre-facelift). However some searching on here has left me confused about the likelihood of cracked head and diesel in the sump. Some threads suggest the 15P is less prone and others suggest it is even more prone than the 10P. Any pointers would be very welcome, has this debate been clarified at all now that both engines have been inservice for a while? Thanks in advance, AJ.

Consensus amongst the independent Land Rover repair people around here, is that the 15P engine is better, as long as it's been subjected to short interval oil changes and yearly coolant changes.
