Hi Chaps,
I seen a number of disocs with 95-100k on the clock 02-03 plate facelift model. Whats likely to go wrong with discos with such high mileage.
My brothers 97 disco needed clutch , suspension airbags done between 110-130k , anything else likely to go wrong at such high mileage or should i stay clear?

Mine started vibrating under load and my local landy specialist told me my doughnut had gone. Apparently this is the solid rubber coupling that joins the rear propshaft to the diff, he reckons that this is a common fault around the 100k mark, other than that just look for a full service history as you would with any car !

Seriously, don't worry about mileage - be more concerned about service history and condition.

When all is said and done, you'll be buying a second-hand car, so some problems WILL arrive, just deal with them.

i dont think service history is that much of a worry, most landies with this sort of mileage have been maintained by the owner, and unless you had a jhn bull printing kit for your birthday and you are bored out of your mind, i cant see the service book getting a stamp

dont know if this has much bearing on discos but my52 plate defender has done 260000+
had a few problems in the first 50000byt was under warranty then
since 120000 its been maintained and service regularly(3months)with very few problems other than new clutch and exhaust
oh and a couple o little bits o damage ive sorta picked up

Thanks for all the replies. The disco is a GS2002 facelift model.
I thought the GS was pre facelift spec but I could be wrong

My Disco TD5 (yep on a '04 plate) has just today clocked 99k . . . I service it meticiously and so far it's as good as gold

ONLY probs have been couple of dash lights, a new injector harness (oil as usual) set of brake pads (not a problem as such) oh an the clutch judders when cold, and is on the list for this summer. Gear box is . . . . well lets just say 'it still works'

One point on the air bags, I regulalry raise them to full height and give 'em a good wash to remove the grit and crud, and so far there ain't no wear !!

Well, as you know, Landys can be like the street sweepers broom, but this one has had an engine overhaul at about 300k, a new turbo at the same time, the transfer box replaced as the original ran out of oil and lost all its teeth, and a new cylinder head the other day as he lent it to a friend who ignored the low coolant buzzer and overheated it. But all the main bits are original, even if the bodywork and seats look like sh1t. He is a farrier and it is a working vehicle as they say ....

Mine's done 121,000 miles, 6 years, owned from new.

For the info on the first 100k miles, see this thread:
http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f8/experience-100-000-miles-disco2-td5-38729.html

The last 21000 miles have been fine although I now have a grumbling clutch (not worn out or slipping, just a bit of a judder sometimes when setting off in 1st gear).

Also broken a suspension spring, which is getting replaced this wednesday (£50).

No problem, 100k miles seems OK for a well looked after TD5...

Mine does that also, has done for last 20k or so, no better, no worse

Seems to be a common TD5 Disco problem.

It has all the symptoms of oil contamination, which is slightly worrying, although I did read a thread that talked about possible clutch fluid leaking onto the plate . . . it's on my 'summer jobs' list

Hmm. I'll probably get my clutch repaird at the next service. If I get another +120k miles I'll be at 250k (and 12 years old)...

Overall, the Disco is the only vehicle I have kept for so long, I would normally have traded-in a "normal car" ages ago. Disco ownership seems to be addictive!

"A Disco is for life, not just for Christmas"

Having owned one for almost 4 years now, and having driven LR's since I was 17 . . . I can't see myself ever going back to a car again . . . some LR's are still going strong after 40-50 years, so I'm sure I'll find one, and the next one and so one to see me out !!!

It's definitely "you love 'em, or hate 'em"
