My 00my TD5 has done 178,000km and so far no real problems to speak of. I bought it with a full L/R service history for what thats worth and I worked on the basis that most of the major failures would have been sorted out and the risk would be wear and tear from now on in. That's gonna be a risk with any 2nd hand car

there was one in the auto trader with 435.000 miles on lol...my td5 done 109k and i think its just run in the only thing i wouldnt do is remapp it to silly bhp....160 bhp is enough for me

Remapping can ONLY cause more wear, based on more stress and strain within the engine (the re-mapping companies won't tell you that though)

Put simply how many miles will an F1 car do . . answer about 500 before a complete engine rebuild)

I tend to agree with Steve. The O.E.M's invest a lot of money in engine development achieving a tune which will satisfy both all the markets the vehl will be sold in and achieving longevity with reliability..........sometimes it doesn't work though!! If you need to go down the re-mapping and tuning route, then you perhaps should buy a different car?

i dont agree these td5 engines are very good ive worked on just about every part of them including fitting a new crank. a remap to 160 ish bhp aint dangerous engine will still do the same life the only stress is put on the turbo but thats hardly anything when td5s were sold to the mod they were all on 160bhp thats how they left land rover
the only thing that bothers me about discoverys is the rot factor crap steel and stupid holes in the box section ..brakes could of been better ive seen people chop the cat off put a straight through pipe on remap to 160bhp there toataly different its like they can breathe at last. my mates has done 190.000 miles remapped from new ..simon holmes is the guy to speak to its his own map which is only 160bhp but the torque is twice as good .as long as you dont kill the axels by putting loads through them there ok td5 better than the new tdv6 im sure they might go better but nowhere near as strong

anyone wanting to know how to do a 2002 to a 2003 light conversion message me ill send you it in a mail dont pay £20 for it off ebay or td5 alive or simmonite ill send it free cos its so simple to do

Maybe, maybe not !!

There was a Disco 3 for sale on flea bay couple weeks ago, an it had 213,000 on the clock, only 3 tears old - ex highways agency patrol car.

It was mint inside an out apart from knack'd drivers seat, it still fetched over £18k too !!
