Hello
Bought one more freelander. With 1.8 which was knocking after full engine repair and owner revved it into red line so rod came out of block :D

I have one good bottom of 1.8 and i guess top of this blown 1.8 is ok, but i also have spare part rover 75 with 2.5 kv6 engine. How easy is it to swap kv6 engine? Will 1.8 trans bolt right to kv6? Or will ird bolt right to kv6 trans?

Engine mounts are easy to make. And what about electronics?

Some here have installed a turbo 1.8 and had lots of difficulties so I would think a K6 swap would be even harder. Probably easier to find a knackered K6 Freelander and swap your good engine into it.

It fits the engine bay.
Will 1.8 trans bolt right to kv6?
No. But you can make up an adapter plate so I will mate to the box.

The V6 IRD is a different ratio to the 4 pot IRD, but I believe they all use the same gearbox mounting bolt pattern.

The engine mounts already exist as the V6 was a factory option. ;)
And what about electronics?
You can use the KV6 Freelander electronics

Slightly off topic.

I’m curious on the mounting of the different engines. Does the 1.8 use the same PG1 gearbox? If so what is the different part to mate a V6? Are they a different bell housing bolt pattern?

What adapter would be needed?

Not in a Freelander. The KV6 was only available with the Jatco automatic transmission, when installed in the FL1. When the KV6 is installed in the MG ZS180, then PG1 gearbox is used.

The bell housing side of the PG1 gearbox casing is different, between the K4 and KV6.

Are they a different bell housing bolt pattern?
Yes, completely different.

An adapter that has the holes to joint the 4 pot PG1 box to the KV6 flange is needed, as the KV6 version of the PG1 box, doesn't have the necessary mounts for the IRD, which obviously isn't needed in the FWD ZS180.

I have invested machining the KV6 gearbox to take the IRD, and it looks possible, or at least not impossible. But it requires the use of equipment that I don't have access to.
