ive read a few threads about a similar issues but cant seem to get to the bottom of it.

The wifes 1.8 is playing silly buggers, it would rev erratically at idle, sometimes sitting at 3000 etc.

Sounds rough as a dog when it does that too.

I fitted a good alloy TB which i robbed from my red one (which had no problems) and its made no difference.

Had a looksee for any loose or split pipes and cant find anything.

Inlet manifold air leak perhaps? Or dodgy air sensor? Any thoughts?

Mine was doing something very simular to this, it was the throttle position sensor. I can't remember if you would of changed this when you changed the TB though.

Spray a bit of wd or something like around pipes and manifold bit by bit with the motor running and listen out for any change might detect an air leak somewhere..

will give it a go tonight. I was trying to rob the IACV off my red un last night to install that in it, but since the fire under the bonnet the bonnet has decided it does'ne want to open!

I was banging it like a gorilla last night as the wife was pulling ma lever :O

Pull the large hose off the IACV and spray some carb cleaner or WD40 into the valve while the engine is running. Rev the engine a few times as that will activate the motor. That should sort you out.
