Hi all,

1.8 k series petrol - with the oil filler cap removed the entire top of the engine is beneath oil...is this normal please?

epic have you checked the dipstick
 
Yeah dipstick is level is fine..just never had an engine that you can't see the top of for oil before so Im just checking.:)

sounds like your looking at oil round cam, unless the oil return ways were blocked in head- then it would be low on sump dipstick.
sounds like your worrying about nothing as if it was way overfilled the dipstick would indicate it
 
Yep.

Your looking at a Black Laminated Rocker Cover Gasket.

The time to worry is when it doesnt look black or is bubbling (delamination caused by engine overheating).
 
I was well deceived, black cover with a film of oil covering it and I thought it was 2 feet deep.
