As above, is bluetooth standard on he HSE or still an option? All the gubbins is there but not connecting.

Should be standard as part of the head unit package that came with the HSE, has been on all FL2's i've seen even on lower spec models most have it

Full phone buttons, red and green. And phone button on radio.

Ok so you should have Bluetooth fitted to your car. The module is located in the rear rh loadspace area and I think you should be able to see it through the access hatch in the trim. It's a black rectangular box made by Continental with 2 connectors - a 20 way with 2 wires in and a MOST connector (orange covered fibre optics)
If it's there and not working it may be disabled in the config.
