so, 2 days into Freelander ownership, won't start and dash lights going crazy, lots of clicking... Any ideas?
waiting for recovery peeps right now!

Looks like its the battery, green flag man started it after leaving it on the jump leads for a while.. It was REALLY flat! Job for lunchtime, get new battery.

glad you got it started it is nice to hear how things go , it would not have been the ignition switch as it was clicking you heard , I was to late to reply but at this time of year I always suggest check battery first .as it gets cold over night and there are lots of things you car depends on , and if you only go short journeys then it is not having time to recharge , but there is one tip if it does it again , take the battery off and shake it .as all the sediments of the lead go to the bottom and course a sort circuit and by shaking you part them and there may be enough charge left in it .hope this helps

Interesting tip, I hadn't heard of shaking the battery either!

Any recommendations of which battery to buy, or nwhich ot to buy?

Plumped for a Yausa silver battery in the end, what made me go for it is the fact my Kawasaki has this make, and its first battery lasted 15 years! oh, and comes with a 5 year warranty. bit pricey mind.

Well that was a major faff.. changing the battery, a 5 minute job, right?

2 hours later, finally done!
Battery clamp bolt spinning but not releasing, tried to take the battery tray out, the last bolt is of course UNDER the battery, plan B, drill bolt head off and knock rest out with a FBH, reassemble with a nut n bolt.

And the new battery doesn't completely fit properly, I'll need to 'modify' the tray slightly when I have more time so it slots in properly.

Character building isn't it!

Had a thorough service at the weekend (the TD4, not me.. :D) At Woodside Garage, luckily only about 5 miles from home, needed a couple more things .. drop links, something to do with a pinion (can't quite remember what) and wiper blades.

He did comment on its unusually rusty underside though which was a bit worrying, reconned it came from way up North where the roads are always salty!

Oh, and the rear toolkit compartment was very wet!
I've read up on this where water can get in from between the metal.

Had a go with sport mode in the knowledge that it won't blow up, great fun, but alass too much in fuel so back to 'normal' mode for me.
