Had the 3 amigo lights on-mechanic changed shuttle valve and lights went off.Came on a day later and would reset when engine was turned off,but come back on intermitently.Going back to garage for further investigation - but- put a new horn button on today.A simple enough job? should have been but,to stop the horn from blaring whilst pushing clips in-I pulled the fuse under the bonnet.Fitted the button-replaced the fuse and tested-all fine.My wife was meanwhile cleaning the car and had radio on and various doors open etc and ignition on and off at various times though not starting the engine.

An hour or so later I tried to start the car and when the ignition was turned on-usual dash lights appeared-went off as supposed to, then air suspension and tilt control warning lights came back on with 3 warning dings! turning the key to start produced a grating noise from the starter motor as if not engaging properly.Tried a few times with same result.Another thread suggested battery could be at fault so I hooked it up to a friend`s 4x4 with jumper cables. When ignition was turned on all lights including 3 amigo`s went out as supposed to-but same no starting problem.

Any ideas anyone? I thought it could possibly be the immobiliser, but not sure about how the car reacts when this kicks in.Would the starter still try to engage or would all just be dead? If it is the immobiliser-I`ve just discovered I don`t have the 4 digit security code to reset it so what woyuld my options be?
Thanks in advance for any info

The immobiliser won't allow the engine to turn over. Part of the system inhibits the starter motor. It sounds like you have a flat battery. Try either charging the battery using a charger or connect jump leads and leave them on for 10 to 15 mins before trying to start the engine. Most jump leads you buy in the shops are rubbish.;)

When my immobiliser triggers, I can turn it over, but it just won't start.

The starter motor sounds normal though, not 'grating'.

Thanks guys - I`ve got the battery on charge right now to see.Does anyone know if it`s possible to have triggered the immobiliser by pulling the horn fuse?

It seems you were spot on Ratty!!! After charging the battery for 3 hours or so-car started no probs.Took it for an hour long drive and not a single warning light on! Off to find a new battery now.

Thanks for your advice-it`s great to know there are still genuine people around who want to help out.
Cheers

Oh, I will try this too and fingers crossed its the battery with my landy.
Got 2 key fobs, not locking the doors, lights come on when placed in the ignition and turned, then when fully turned - NOTHING and big fat NOTHING. No noise, nothing.
Now put the charger on and its reading - Charging battery - lets hope, will let you know tomorrow.

it is common for the starters to pack up but there is a £10 kit on e bay for them but you realy need to find out if there is power going to the starter when the ignition is turned if not the fault is not the starter and the starter can be a pig to get off (well the top bolt is)

Do the lights go off when the key is fully turned?

1. if yes give a (+) from the battery direct to the starer's clamp(with a strong enough wire) with contact on.... if it starts this way U're sure it's not the starter and U can go further...to the contacts and relay in the engine compartment fuse box....and so on

2. if no.....then it could be complicated
