02 Freelander 1 TD4 - Sudden clutch Failure

Hi

As the title says my clutch suddenly went (pedal all the way to the floor with no pressure/ will not return unless I pull it up).

It had a new (master?) cylinder about 2 years ago which I had some problems with as it kept losing fluid but that was cleared up after some re-filling and bleeding (I was told that the joint that connects the sealed unit to the hydraulic line wasn't great and was leaking).

Anyway its the type where one cylinder is on the engine bulkhead (that's the one I had changed) and the other I think is inside the bell housing.

Any ideas on which one could be faulty (or how to tell) or is it more likely to be a total collapse of the clutch plate etc.

What parts am I likely to need?

Is it something that I can do at home or is it a garage job? I'm a long way short of a professional mechanic but a reasonable engineer.

as there's a post describing how to check it ..

something like ..
disconnect the connection between the master and slave cylinders
( i understand that connector is self sealing when it comes apart )
then try the clutch pedal .. if it's solid .. then it's the slave cylinder that needs replacing

i just had my slave-cylinder replaced .. as vehicle has 90k miles
went for new clutch plates as well ( seeing as it has to come apart anyway )
d.m.flywheel was still in good shape .. ( clutch was 50% worn )

techie told me it's usually the vehicles that tow .. or drivers who slip the clutch frequently .. that usually need the flywheel replacing as well ..
