That was taken at Burton Dassett. Only found out today that they allow you to drive on the hills I wish I knew while I still had the RR.
It's hard getting used to a normal car. On narrow lanes I was used to pulling well over to let cars past not worrying about getting stuck in the mud.
It's nice to drive, but it's got it's own set of recurring problems. Out of the frying pan into another frying pan

18 months on and I have regretted every second of ownership.
It's currently sat on my drive, uninsured, untaxed and undriveable and it's been like that for 6 months.
My old P38 in retrospect was the best car I ever had.

What a shame. any car can cost a fortune to fix if things go very wrong, Mercs are no different - we have an SLK in the family which had to have a £1300 repair after the boot seal failed, allowed water ingress and burnt the central locking / roof closure pump out nearly setting the car on fire - I must say, though, the main Merc stealers had a great customer service ethos and we were given a brand new C class for over a month while they sourced the part from Germany, replaced part of the wiring loom which had been damaged and resealed and dried the boot out - couldn't fault them on looking after us with the repair. Like most other main dealers though, they won't repair components any longer, insisting on replacing entire units like auto transmissions etc, when there are problems. Merc MLs apparently have very high repair costs and known problem areas, which made me reluctant to change to one when I was looking to replace our Rangie. The joys of motoring, I think they call it.....

There are lots of niggly things. I forget them all, but it seemed like every week something else electrical would fail.
The main problems are the air suspension pump burnt out and left me stranded. Unlike the RR, when there is no air you cannot turn the steering because the tyres hit the arches.
Also the turbo went in a puff of brown smoke.
There are anoying things too like one of the HID headlamp stopped working. I was prepared to pay £80 for a new lamp, but it wasn't that easy. It's going to cost £300 for a new controller.
The MOT was due too and it needed two new tyres. Adding all that up I couldn't afford to get it all fixed. I'm now using a borrowed Volvo V40 which, as nice as it is, seems very normal
I'll have to get it going again at some point, but right now I don't have enough £££

My Mate had 2 Mercs, a convertable and a station wagon. Both nothing but trouble, he's just traded the station wagon for a P38 because it was too rusty to pass the MOT! Got £900 for it.

Oh no, that awful news. Hope you get yourself another LR. Just get something simple, with regular suspension and minimal electronics and the only thing you'll need to worry about is rust.:doh:

Sorry you are leaving - but do not for a moment assume that Mercedes ownership will be any different.
I have dealt with Mercedes for two vehicles now - one brilliant V280 bought 3 years old from a dealer - the other (a frantic little smart Roadster) from new - and had to fight them tooth and nail to get things put right.
The car's aren't too bad - but the dealers are hopeless. The car would go in with one fault - and come back with three more. Even the mercedes sales people were telling me that they hated selling the cars, as they knew that the customers would be coming back...
After they had the V class for over two months - (In which time I had great fun trying out each courtesy car they brought) - it came back with yet more faults - I ended up picking up the parts from them and doing the work myself!.
If you want an easy life - then get a Toyota or Lexus, Yes they are dull- but they are exceptionally reliable. One Toyota fitter told me he was bored - as all he did was servicing and PDI's!
If you do get a Merc - do not take it anywhere near a dealer. There are many good independent places that will do a far better (and cheaper) job.
