ABS pump recharge??????

Hi guys,

i have been having brake problems. So i bit the bullet and bought a reconditioned ABS pump off the net and bought a new accumulator. My brakes are now working fine. No warning lights and it stops great. How often should the pump come on? I turn egnition and it comes on then switches off, which is normal. But am unsure how often the pump needs to recharge etc? Any ideas?

pretty sure it'll only recharge 'now and again' mine does get pressure every first journey. asume the pressure drops off over time.

it's just that the pump comes on after like a couple of gentle braking applications. I read on rangerrovers.net that there should be enough charge for 20 to 30 brake applications! Is this true. I'm not sure if i'm being over cautious because this car has sent over the edge of insanity with all its little niggles. Its a 4.6 HSE 98 model.

to be honest i have never noticed, that figure does ring a bell tho!! have you got a copy of rave for the range rover. it may be worth browsing that, see if there are any checks to do to ensure its working correctly!

yeah i've gotta copy on my computer at home. Will have a look tonight.

Could this problem be anything to do with an air pocket in the braking system somewhere? Maybe try a re-bleed?

Every second or third application is fine,the info on RR's net is wrong.

ahhh, it seems rr.net got a couple of zero's to use up and stuck em in there!!!

Mine is exactly the same. Comes on when i start the car.

I always thought it was the EAS compressor doing it. i did wonder why i comes on after a few breaks.

Also i dont know if anyone elses does it. but when i go over a bump in the road an im breaking the ABS tries to kick in. doesnt slam them on or anything jus makes a funny noise an you can feel it in the pedel.

On rough surfaces the ABS will kick in, this is quite normal. You need to remember the ABS on a Rangie is "tuned" to work off road and can be a bit twitchy when compared to more ordinary road cars. I can get my ABS to pulse going over speed bumps. If you have traction control it is likely to be even more twitchy.
