Disco front inner wings

Hello all, i've a '96 Disco with some holes in the front inner wings, are these a possible mot failure?

I though of patching em up with fibreglass, but would that suffice for mot test?

fill em an glue em...
best welds 1/4 plate over top for full effect.In theroy no mot point but its down to tester on day

ffs BoB - we have had this discussion many times - if their is corrosion with 12" of the brake servo its an MOT failure - so the ns wing is OK - the OS isnt - if MOT peeps see fibreglass they will go over it with a fine toothcomb. rewelding the inner wings is pretty easy (albeit time consuming)

Yep, I had the area round the brake servo welded for its last mot.....that was ok, but I did get an "advisory" about the other holes, which is why I wondered if fibreglass would be acceptable.........me, not having a welder

its all flat plate so its real easy to repair ! you could rivet patches over the area and paint it ?

The nearside wing is a problem as well if the car has ABS, the modulator block is mounted on it, as my mot man keeps telling me.

If you plan on keeping the car, get yerself a welder and learn how to use it, if your inner wings are going, so will a whole lot of other stuff on the car... sills, body mounts, battery boxes, boot floor, c pillars....

It will pay for itself, and once you've had one you'll wonder what you ever did without it..!

Thats what I keep telling the mrs. Machine mart do what looks to be half decent MIG welders for under £300. Hang on a sec whilst I find the link.....

In retrospect, I wish that I had bought one last year when I had a load of welding done to mine. I'd have saved myself a fortune. I have noticed some more areas that will need attention soonish, so I will definatly be buying my own welder, instead of doing all the prep & paint, and paying someone else to do it.

I just rang wiltshire college - £124 for a 10 week evening course in welding.. fully booked till january but seems a worthwhile investment for any discovery owner I reckon...

better still sell ya rusty disco and buy the one im rebuilding ! its having all the corrosion cut out and welded using new panels !
