My 2000 reg p38 radio code has been entered wrong 4 times by mistake and now all it says is wait, I have waited for about 3 weeks now and there is no change has anyone got any ideas as my wife wants to listen to music and not me.
 
get a car pc in there, you can build it all yourself, google it, its basically a computer in yr car and the wife can have internet, sat nav, tv/sky or whatever you want really.
 
If you've entered an incorrect number press the 'BAND' button (above the number 1 digit) and you should see 'Code In' again

if not, you may need to leave it switched on for upto or over 1 hour, i suggest you get a backup battery or car with jump leads ready in case battery goes flat. remember negative jump lead to erth/body NOT battery!

I keep a spare battery on hand from the "old" days when the RF receiver hadn't been changed for the new model yet - jump starting the RR was always a dodgy issue, I was told when I bought it, intially when the old RF reciever was running them down by waking the BECM up all the time, I used to remove the battery and charge it rather than jump start. Problem if you're in a supermarket car park somewhere I expect. Would you do the same with one of these Portable Battery packs ie earth to body? Tried it on another car and it didn't work - needed it connected to the battery poles.
 
i can assure you it works from jump leads to a donor car thats running. i did it only yesterday as i had the radio on whilst cleaning and the battery went flat. i will be getting a new battery me thinks!!
 
Take your RR to a RR dealer, mine gave me the code free of charge just for asking. All they requested was that I bring the car log book and ID to prove ownership.
 
The real reason (as advised in any make of car handbook) for connecting the jumplead earth to the body or chassis was to avoid any possibilities of sparks in the vicinity of the battery where explosive gases can be present. (For the same reason the +ve is always connected first). I don't think it has anything to do with the BECM or any other modules. I don't have the handbook to hand to check on the way to connect the jumpleads for a diesel but maybe they recommend connecting to the battery earth to ensure a better connection as the diesel will take more power to turn over? Or maybe it's something to do with the fact they cover everything in plastic these days and it's difficult to find a good piece of bare metal to connect onto?.......

just do as the book says,i connected a starter to mine cos the battery went flat,this in turn burnt out the BECM module,cost nearly £400 to put right.:eek::eek:

What sort of starter? One of those portable jump start units that you can get at Halfrauds or Clarkes etc?? Someone warned me when I bought the P38 5 years ago never to jump start from another vehicle, but I did use a portable jump starter a few times before I changed the old RF receiver......:eek:
Then I reverted to the old 2 battery technique - one in the car and one on charge :D before finally shelling out £150 on a new RF receiver.....but I thought a jump starter would be safe....:doh:

hi RG,no it was a starter/charger,the BECM does not like these,i only found out when i read the owners manual,:doh::doh::doh:
 
ive jumped from other cars and from charger/starters, connected to the body earth! no probs and becm is fine!!

in fact, apart from a couple of bits and bobs i am now 'happy' with it!
