Saw a thread on here about propper landy cross plies and where to get them but cant find it via a search.
My mate needs some cause he's got radials on the front and Land Rover tyres on the back and it'll soon be mot time!!

Any idea where to get the Knobbly landy army type tyres from please:)

You are allowed to have different ply types on different AXLES, it's only when you end up with cross ply on the left and radial on the right you get knackered. Pretty sure beetles run on cross ply at the front and a lot of peeps will put radial roadslicks on the bum end

You used to be allowed cross on the front and radial on the rear but not the other way round IIRC

Tyres - reasons for rejection/failure

2.
a. one tyre is of a different type of structure from another tyre on the same axle
b. a 3- or 4-wheeld vehicle fitted with single wheels, and
i. a cross-ply tyre or bias-belted tyre fitted on rear axle and radial-ply tyre is fitted on front axle, or
ii. a cross-ply tyre fitted on rear axle and a bias-belted tyre fitted on front axle.
Note: Any tyre ‘type’ mix between different axles is acceptable for vehicles that have
. 2 axle and ‘twin’ wheels on the rear axle
. 3 axles, one steering and one driving
Note: This does not apply to vehicles with an axle fitted with tyres having a road contact area at least 300 mm wide.

As far as I am aware Avon still make 8ply crossies in the Ranger patten....£125 each!!!:screaming_bug_eye_f:screaming_bug_eye_f

I found this at local tyre fitters in Epping, don't bother with the "big boys"!!!

ewww, leave the SATs alone, get them michelin ones, they are on ebay quite a bit with wolf rims :) yum yum

G

SATs the real ones are great off road not so great on a range rover on the motorway but excellent offroad they deserve a plaque and being made tyre of the 1990's.

I was thinking about some of them as i have the proper Firestones on atm but they are cracked to **** :(............ But every one i asked said don't as they are lethal
My mate has em on and he swears by em. Only uses it on the road though.

being cross plies they will loose grip gently and progressively unlike radials which grip a lot then suddenly break away, I know which I prefer!
:)
