Hi all
New member first time on a forum I have read about changing freelander2 auto fluid temp gear changes all very important but as my gear box is running perfect would it be OK for me to measure the fluid drained and replace the same amount whilst cold
Any advice gratefully received thanks in advance

Measuring exactly how much fluid comes out, than putting the same amount back in is good basic method for keeping fluid level within tolerance, however it doesn't help much if fluid has been leaking, although that should be obvious.

Thanks for the fast reply Nodge will do that today

you don't want to just replace oil you have drained out, the correct way to do it is to bring the temperature of the oil to 60c this can be seen if you have an OBD 2 reader which will give the actual reading or use a temperature reading tool on case. (I normally take for a decent run this brings it up above 60c but I check with the reader just to be sure) You then undo the drain plug which has a smaller drain plug in it. Drain the oil out then replace the main plug with the smaller plug removed. Fill up with oil until it drains out of the plug, reinsert the smaller plug , job done. I actually do this on a yearly basis as I'm to mean to pay a garage to do a flush.
