It may have changed but not too long ago the maximum power for headlamp bulbs was 55 Watts.

I think it's still the same for Tungsten lamps, but HID and LED make a nonsense of that, a 50 watt LED bulb has a light output equivalent to a 380 watt Tungsten bulb. I don't know what the rules are for the new tech lights.

And that is why all those after market halogen bulbs more or less give the same light output. Some claim to be a "whiter" light but does that really help. I suppose you are not supposed to have super bright 100 watt high beams as you may forget to dip them and blind oncoming drivers. This reminds me of an occasion last year where a Jeep was coming towards me on a side street and I actually had to stop as I could not see where I was going. I rolled down my window and mentioned this to the lady and she commented it was a brand new vehicle so must have been totally misaligned at the factory.

It's my personal opinion they don't care about light output anymore, just that the beam pattern and cutoff is correct

OK, having said that is it possible to fit a "Boomslang" type harness to your lights?, made up my own for both my classic and my 200 Tdi 90, and the difference was like night and day. (Doh)

No idea what a Boomslang harness is, but messing with the electrics on a P38 is a recipe for trouble unless you know what you are doing.

I have had 4 Jap/Korean 4 x 4's, always found the standard lights adequate.

Be careful if LED ones. They need to be focused but also they need to dissipate the heat from the resisters that fool the BECM the current draw is enough and I have heard stories of some cheap ones overheating and melting the loom.

It's a relay off the main circuit then. Surely that will throw a dash error because it won't be drawing the expected current!?

Hence why it stops at the Classic.
