1996 p38. - anyone chanhed those dimm bulbs in the headlight for better ones ?
Just looking.for recommendations before I get some 100 watt in it.

Yes I have them in the 99 v70.
Working just fine - bright and nice.

I did try them nigjtbreakers and they been a.waste of money
Not much difference to standards .

I'm at a time of life where you start doubting your eyes yet I find the standard bulbs quite adequate. I'd be checking connectors for corrosion and make sure the lenses are clear. The standard light setup should be fine unless you're driving with a white stick out the window to feel the cat's eyes.

The headlight bulbs are switched by MOSFET's they are not rated for 100watts so you will quite likely destroy the BECM. If you cannot see with the standard headlights you should not be allowed out at night.
Or get thicker glasses... Proper bin lids.

drive a 2010 galaxy and then drive a range rover at night in rain.
there is the difference.
one give you enough lights to see any wildlife of a good distance and the other makes you slow down because of the short beam and low brightness.
guess which one.
yes i do have a 10k lightbar on. but using it by oncoming traffic means the oncoming driver is blinded.

i cleaned the lenses inside and outside. i have night breakers in now. still yellow.( well - dull compare the other car )

Check your wiring and voltages. They shouldn't be yellow especially with night breakers in there.
Also, if the beams are short, check the alignment as they shouldn't be.
You've recently played with the eas, it's possible that the lights were aligned previously with incorrect suspension heights and are now way too low.

I don't know what speed you drive at night, but if you're struggling to see what's ahead of you with p38 lights then maybe there's a problem with them. You've said the glass is clear, are the reflectors clean and in good order?
I have standard bulbs in mine and the output is brilliant! Much, much better than what i get from my 2008 320 bmw

It does sound Iike a wiring fault if they are just yellow, can you get a picture of them in the night time. I'll try and remember to do mine tonight for a comparison. Dipped and high.

The Galaxy will have Halogen lamps so there will be a difference. In my view Halogen lamps are a hazard on the road in some circumstances.

The range rover will have halogens also Tony, unless you mean xenor bi xenon!?

My Miggy had the xenons and I must admit they were awesome. Neither the Rangie or the Jag come close but they're certainly adequate.

I guess I could do what you did and add some spots / a light bar into the main beam but it seems like unnecessary hassle and expense. I had to open my wallet last month so that's me done for another year or so.

A 2010 galaxy may not have xenons, some will, some won't depending on spec.
Even with xenons, the high beam will still be halogen.
I had halogen projector lights on the ampera and they were appalling. I retrofitted led lamps and they were better but still far from perfect.
The lights on a p38 are plenty adequate on dipped and fantastic on high beam if adjusted and working correctly.

I put 100 watt bulbs in my Disco 1 and they melted the sockets. You need ceramic sockets for these. I tried some expensive Sylvania bulbs in my P38 but really did not notice much improvement. I now have LED bulbs and they seem better. I think they were cheaper than the halogen bulbs. My 2008 full size RR has HID but I 'm not impressed . Could be they need replacing as I understand they dim as they age. Seldom able to drive with high beams because of traffic so low beam performance is important, especially when raining. Off-road I think the high beams are fine plus I have 2 PIAA 7 inch driving lights.
