I rebuilt my engine and put on a new Bearmach filter. I was gutted to find I had an oil leak which made a mess of my nice, new engine, although I couldn't see where it was coming from.
Months later I tackled the problem and found that the Bearmach had leaked from the crimp at the top, from new. I put on a Britpart, the only spare I had and no more problems! Hurrah for Britpart! But I'll go OEM next time.

Blimey , that’s disappointing for an oil filter to leak straight out the box, must admit personally wouldn’t have a britpart oil filter any where near my engine

have indeed always fitted genuine or mahle

Many thks for the link, will have a look

Had the same more than once, but was britpart that was leaking.
Cannot remember what is on there now, but it is not leaking yet!

Just looked Crosland,

Tdi I am pretty much happy to slap any old thing on them as engine tough, the tdv6 and wifes car, I want a quality make Mahl etc, If I can find genuine at sensibe money I will have them.
OE and OEM dont seem to mkae much of a toss to the quality.

largest wholesaler and of genuine parts too

u saying that , Pretty sure it was relating to britpart , as I’ve have heard some people that have ordered a britpart and then seen a genuine Land Rover part inside , think it was brake parts

alas in the past just had to much agro to go back to britpart , plus when it comes to the engine it would just always be in the back of my mind

There are a few different brands of oil filter out there for our motors, Genuine/OEM, Mann, Mahle, Britpart, Crosland, Bosch, Fram and I'm sure I've missed a few.
Whats your preference, cheapest? Dearest? Or do you just pick up the first one listed? Do you have a preferred brand? Have you ever taken your old one apart to see whats in it?
How often do you change oil on your vehicle?
Oil and filter are cheap maintenance'
I take mine to dealer for oil and filter, along with a full inspection. All for about $30 at 3 times a year so $ 100 a year or less than 30 cents a day.
Why you being a cheap fooker?

You wont even get the parts for 30 dollars in the UK for one oil change, never mind the inspection.
Average price for syn oil is roughly 5.00 gbp per litre, filter is 10gbp minim, dealer will be double that, then plus the labour.

Some quick fit places used to do 35gbp oil changes, not sure fi they still do?
The problem now is the oil, there are so many variables/types.

Thats why the dealer does it. I can't buy the items cheaper than what a dealer charges. Also dealers record of service etc they can't say oil issue for a warranty work.

Even a medicocre main dealer car service will cost you 250 gbp in the UK, and that is basically an oil/filter change and the inspcection, everything else is an extra, plugs/cabin air filter/engien air filter/fuel filter.
Consequently not mnay cars see the main dealer once their warranty has run out.
Many modern european cars are 15 to 25k or two year service intervals.

I'm not being cheap, just looking for an informed opinion. Not every supplier sells every brand and with so many choices at similar process is hard to know where to start.
I do the servicing myself so i know it's been done right, plus the main dealer probably wouldn't know a p38 was even a land rover and has been said, not exactly cheap either

Well, my point in posting the video was that we mostly perceive Mahle as being better, perhaps due to it's higher cost, but the fuel filter in the video was not a lot better than the Britpart.

My experience with the leaking Bearmach oil filter taught me that, despite my perception that Bearmach is better than Britpart, it's still made in Chindia and quality is probably about the same.

I have no problem buying Britpart if they supply OEM or genuine, as James Martin points out. Not everything in a blue box is cheap. Just look out for the G after the part number.
