As a side note , Ref the atf , use the Mannol ag 55 for the D3 , heard great reviews with the mannol oils, hundreds used it on the D3 forum and also cheaper than the ZF oil

can buy 10 x litres for £50 from Germany

As long as it meets the Shell spec for the gearbox it should be ok.. ;)

Hi mate

will be interesting to see what u think of the diesel cleaner , alas don’t see many use them in D3 s , useto use millers in the FL1 and did notice a slight improvement

only of the few ones I’ve seen being used in D3 are wynns for turbos

but will be interesting to see what results u get

also used millers ATF in the FL1 got some great results in the jatco gearbox, know it’s a different box but was impressed with the millers

used the millers as per pic for my latest engine oil change in the D3 , sounds quieter / smoother , but may just be me, but pleased with it and will use it again, also made sure I bought a decent fuel filter

looks like ur having so much fun, keep up the great work mate and thks as always for the great updates

Thanks Gary ;)

The Fuel additive did pep it up a bit, fuel economy is good too, weirdly..

I can get around 100mi from £19 quid which ain't too bad :D

Millers has made the Gearbox so much smoother :p

The Diffs and Transfer box are also much quieter, with 184,184 miles it cruises at 60 in virtual silence.

Apart from the rubbish wind noise from the door seals o_O

Cheers , have u done a few tank fills yet to see what ur getting MPG

I’ve used revenol for the transfer and diffs, indeed does indeed make a difference but always think if it’s just because you’ve changed the oils, lol

good to hear all is well with ur disco , have u got to get new door seals or will I get away with just adjusting the catches

Aye they do surpass certain requirements ;)

indeed , think I spent around £200 on oils and filters but would rather do that to prevent damage to the engine/ gearbox , also replace them all each and every year regardless of mileage , know some may think it’s an overkill but just peace of mind

Aye.

Oil is usually cheaper than a Gearbox or an engine LOl

I'll be using Millers in the D2's engine next service. ;)

indeed , same with me ref the millers engine oil, have u got much left to do

for me , front and rear brake hoses, rear drop links, getting the AC regassed , replaced the condensor earlier in the year , ATF oil change , got 10 x litres so think I’ll drain and refil twice over a few hundred miles , not keen on powerflushing ,

got some great second hand panels to replace a few that have got scratches on them , fit my nextbase , Aux fusebox already fitted for it , should then be buttoned up and onto basic servicing , famous last words, lol

Hmm..

#1 the rear of the chassis needs Plating and painting
#2 Exhaust manifold and Gasket + wurth studs
#3 rebuild the sunroof(s)
#4 Install a split battery set up + coolbox in the boot.
#5 Re cover the headliner, with black fabric
#6 EBC brake discs and pads.
#7 New brake lines from front to back
#8 Front A bar and Safari 5000 spots
#9 BFG AT2 tyres
#10 New radius arm bushes

Plus plenty of other things!! ;)

Her AC is ICE cold it is on Bentley level cold, which is nice! ;)

I seem to remember you have a project thread, where did it go?

;)

Last week she decided to shyte the bed with a dicky loom.
Which promptly caused her to cut out at every junction
After cleaning the loom with contact cleaner and giving her a whirl she ran alright, so problem sourced, new loom and cam cover seal on the way!

Shamefully i've never had the acoustic cover off this motor, when it was pulled off, it turns out the front cam seal is pishing oil out, and is looser than a tramps sandle.

Weirdly this old lump doesn't leak from Anywhere else, so a good clean up is in order!

It is getting there, i've run out of brake clean though!

AHh!!

Ain't it always the way!! ;)

How is it treating you after a bit of time with it? Also, how bad is the plating in rear? I’d guess you found one that wasn’t about to snap it’s back off!

The chassis ain't TOO BAD ;)
not brilliant but what ya gonna do with a 20yr old discovery ;)

As far as driving and general relaibility she's been very good, a far cry better than the P38 in many ways..

Easily the best LR to drive, and easily the best looking IMO..

Wouldn't mind a D1 mind you ;)

Right.....

The injector loom as posted above was defective, so as all you know the lid has to come off..
I was quite apprehensive considering what some TD5's look like under there!
ruined rollers and cams + sludge among other things!!

so..

Deep breath oooooooh..

Well happy with the cleanliness.
The cam rollers were also is almost new condition!

very little discolouration on the lobes too you wouldn't know it's pushing 190k, but that proves the 2 full service books don't lie!! ;) :)

Tapped a new cam seal in, the old one just fell out!

cleaned the plug out with contact cleaner, this is what came out of it.. ;)

Ra26nkHl.jpg

put a new harness on and put the lid back on..

OSU917sl.jpg

Alas that didn't fix the issue with smoking and rough idle, so injector seals are next!! ;)

She looks a tad sad at the moment!
