Oh and the PO had sealed the sunroof with clear bathroom sealant, fairplay to the chap it worked!

But it had separated away and I know after a matter of time it would leak.

So i went over it with some clear..

The rear one isn't the tidiest but unless you are 6"6 and above you won't see it ;)

And it worked!

Oh and I lifted the seat cover and...

My TD5 doesn't leak that much so this silver should highlight any new leaks. ;)

So when are you fitting the mud terrains and snorkel? Obligatory "one life, live it" stickers too :)

Mud terrains!?

She has a set of nearly new Goodyear Wranglers I put on her just after purchase!

Good tyres BTW! ;)

Snorkel? Probably never tbh i like the "clean" look.

The 2 beasts of burden together!

Finally found myself a Matt for the passengers side, 'tis fiesta MK6 fitment but the fit is rather good on the d2 ;)

Gearbox is also shifting hard so its definitely due a service.

Will have to order the fluid next week!!!

Hopefully it lasts LOL ;)

Fluid isn't too bad.

Couldn't really remember if i posted this on here.

Turns out I didn't..

The ZF box in the D2 really is a match made in heaven, compared to a 300tdi with the same box they're miles apart.

However mine had been shifting quite "hard" sort of shunting into gear instead of that smooth upchange you'd normally expect.

I for one know the Gearbox was last serviced in around 2009 when she had around 100k, so thats 84k without a service, and i have no idea what fluid they used.

So,

The sump is here.

I didn't really document the change with pictures, as ATF is not nice to have on ya camera!

I used Millers Millermatic fully syn

The fluid change procedure is relatively easy..

#1 Drain the old fluid
#2 Remove the sump
#3 re fit fliter
#4 new gasket and put the sump back on, do the bolts up snug.
#5 With the engine off, fill the sump until it trickles out,
#6 start the engine and select every gear and hold for 3 seconds in each
#7 slide back underneath the start filling again until it trickles out.
#8 re install the plug and repeat #6
#9 re check the level and you're done.

All in all you should get around 4.2 litres in and out..

For filling i prefer one of these.

The fluid wasn't too bad,

D2 on the left.

All in all with the new fluid it shifts so much better..

Which is nice/

More mundane cosmetics, the rear plough has seen better days, it ain't as rusty as some i've seen but the finish could be bettter.

The use of some Matt VHT and some masking tape made it look a tad better,

I'm not a fan of shiny paint on surfaces like that, and TBH it was all the paint I had. ;)

This also happened.

Hi mate

will be interesting to see what u think of the diesel cleaner , alas don’t see many use them in D3 s , useto use millers in the FL1 and did notice a slight improvement

only of the few ones I’ve seen being used in D3 are wynns for turbos

but will be interesting to see what results u get

also used millers ATF in the FL1 got some great results in the jatco gearbox, know it’s a different box but was impressed with the millers

used the millers as per pic for my latest engine oil change in the D3 , sounds quieter / smoother , but may just be me, but pleased with it and will use it again, also made sure I bought a decent fuel filter

looks like ur having so much fun, keep up the great work mate and thks as always for the great updates

As a side note , Ref the atf , use the Mannol ag 55 for the D3 , heard great reviews with the mannol oils, hundreds used it on the D3 forum and also cheaper than the ZF oil

can buy 10 x litres for £50 from Germany
