L322 4 wheel alignment - track rod seized to chassis

Range Rover Vogue 4.4 Petrol 2006

Front lower and upper arms changed last week by an independent. I went to Land Rover Ditton for wheel alignment and they said they can't do it as front arms are non genuine and something is wrong with them. They can't do the rear wheel alignment as track rod arm seized to chassis. They still charged me £100 for just checking and letting me know that they can't do it. Below is the paperwork for the work needs to be done before wheel alignment. £2600 is the cost.

I took it to another place for 4 wheel alignment and they said both rear toe adjustment seized.

When I called rimmerbros for parts they said they are not sure of rear end adjustable toe links etc.

I am confused what needs changing at the rear end for 4 wheel alignment.

Could anyone please help? I am in Hounslow, London.

That £2600 bill looks hilarious but thats part of l322 ownership if you rely on garages..

"seized to chassis" surely they can't be that stupid, replace if they're that bad or free it off!!!!

As for the front arm's being wrong? whats wrong with 'em?

Monkeys nowadays are either scared or untrained in using oxy to unsieze components.

The garage are merely testing whether you are a naive and solvent mug,
best vote against them with your feet and find a decent indy.

£100 quid to check your alignment without adjustment is nothing short of robbery!

That's Londonshire for you...
That £2k+ quote is their way of saying that they can't be bothered doing the work - they probably make more than enough doing easy routine servicing etc.
and nowadays, they probably prefer fixing things with a computer, rather than getting their nice manicured hands grubby.
Real mechanics used to find something that was broken and fix it.
Today, most of them are Vehicle fitters - computer says that bit doesn't work, so we'll take it off and fit a brand new one instead.
God forbid, they would consider trying to fix something - their Grandads used to do that in the old days, and they used real tools that were made in Britain

I just paid £39 for 4 wheel alignment at my local tyre place.

And that's in Surrey.

£100 to check, and not do it, that's diabolical. And then to talk bo**socks about remedial work.

Name and shame.

Too many of these place rip off the unsuspecting and vulnerable.

@smartkhan rather than going to a Land Rover dealer, find yourself a knowledgeable , independant Land Rover specialist. Bills will still be high but not quite as bad.

Why can’t your independent complete the task and sort the problem and the alignment ?

I have aftermarket front control arms & trackrods fitted and when I had the front end aligned after fitting the trackrods, there was no issue with castor.

The rear is not adjustable for castor as far as I am aware as this is set via the physical locations of the upper and lower wishbones, but is adjustable for toe and camber via eccentric washers.

You need to find an independent that knows Land Rovers, the problem with the rear seized is a common problem on l322. An independent will know the way out is to cut the bolt on chassis end of tie bar and fit new bar, bolt and eccentric washers its part number 14 in drawing @Saint.V8. put up.

I know one landrover specialist who did the gearbox service for me. I asked him couple of times but he didn't reply. I think he is not bothered to do it as he might not make money out of me.

Anybody know any good independent in London? I am in Hounslow, West London.

Go to A line in Dudley on the way/way back. You can go M42/M5 on way to manc or come off J10 M6 on way back, either way it'll be about 15mins from motorway. Be warned it is first come first served, you will queue. You can't book a time slot. If they can't sort it...well I dunno. They've always done alright by me.

Do em a favour and spray the track rod threads and all of the main bolts for upper and lower arms with penetrating spray before you go. That goes for wherever you end up taking it

They price for front and rear/toe and camber all separately. So e.g if you just have front toe adjusted it's like, £15. I had a tyre fitted, balanced and old one disposed, front toe/camber and rear camber adjusted on my wife's 1 series there the other week, £75.

But you've got a range rover and shìt is seized up under there so I'd allow for their £50 (iirc) per hour labour charge X a couple of hours just to be safe.

You don't have to wait with the car, as long as the cars there, you're in the queue so you can sample Dudley's delights if you don't want to sit around.

I popped in to aline and they said they can't do it. They said you'll have to change the arms first. 2 hours queue only to check. They said if it's siezed they can't do anything. Trip wasted.
