the only fob I have has gone tits up, just went to use key to get in and the key is just flapping about in the lock, feels like it's disconnected between lock and handle.( only had the car a month or so) to reprogram a fob I assume I need to get in to the car?
To get in the car I need a key which isn't working.
If I need to put a window in to get access what is the easiest one to replace.
Or is there another way, guessing a locksmith will be more expensive than a window.
Can I reprogram with an OBD reader.
Thanks

You've obviously taken the first step in trying to sort things out by changing the battery. There are some other steps you could take with the fob which are detailed in the attachment to @neilly's message:
https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/handy-buying-alarm-info.311291/ Take a look at "D2 Alarm issues. Rev 5.pdf".

Unfortunately a mechanical disconnection between the driver's door lock barrel and the latch mechanism is not unknown. There is an actuating bar between the two which frankly is made out of sh1tite and sometimes does fail at the barrel end and then it just drops off.
@neilly has come across the problem of that little bar and managed to fashion a steel replacement out of a four inch nail.
Without that bar in place it's pointless at this stage even talking about the emergency key access (EKA) code.
Your only way into the vehicle now is by using the fob. When you press either button on the fob, does the little LED on it light up? You could of course resort to half a house brick, but until all options are exhausted it shouldn't even be on your radar at this point.
Without disabling the immobiliser there's no way to connect a code reader to do anything.

Might be the receiver... and if you want to get in remove the tail door window cos then all you need to fix it is a new seal
Just read through the link in previous post, lots to check but pretty certain it's the fob and not receiver. Will phone the eBay fob repair guy to see what he thinks . Good idea regarding rear window if it does all goes tits up,

Is this the same blinking type for the Freelander 1 aswell because mine did this when i bought it. Absolute pain in the perverbs and expensive too so I bought the one previous with standard key.

I don't know about the Freelander key you're talking about. The Disco 2 usually has a key blade for the steering column ignition lock and a built in two button RF fob. The key can also be used to open the driver's door, in the "default set-up" of the vehicle by operating the driver's door lock in a special sequence known as the EKA code. That code is individual to the vehicle, there's no "magic sequence" that can be found on the internet. Unfortunately, by the sound of it the OP will not be able to use the EKA because the mechanical connection between the barrel lock has disappeared so he's unable to do anything with the latch mechanism where all the electrical contacts are housed.
The LED I was talking about is a small red light on the fob which lights when either button is pressed and the fob is transmitting to the central locking system.
There is a red LED on the instrument panel which flashes at a steady rate when the vehicle is locked and immobilised and flashes at a rapid rate while the immobiliser is being armed.

If you have to resort to the housebrick method of entry, first you will set off the alarm and secondly you're going to have to take the driver's door to pieces anyway to do the repair to the lock so if you've got to get in by that method I would advise some sticky backed plastic sheet stuck over the window first to make cleaning up afterwards a bit easier. But at the moment, we're a long way from needing to employ that method.

Is the any of the doors playable at the top. Because if you had a long steel rod hook to feed between the door seals you could feel for the door lever inside and pull open. Thats what the RAC allegedly did for me. As for the key lock on mine a small cross ended bar fed into the drivers door main lock had snapped. I replaced mine with the earlier version that came with keys. So now I have the original for the ignition and tailgate while the others for drivers door. I begrudge paying a fortune for a simple lock barrel issue concerning stupid cross bar.

Update,
Got an auto locksmith out, he checked fob and it worked opposite to what green flag said. But still wouldn’t open, assumed receiver fault. He got a wire through sunroof and pressed the door lock button and opened it. He then pressed the door lock button and fob at same time and everything seems to be working.
Now got to fix lock, there is a metal pin that has broken from the barrel but can’t see where it goes to, I’m sure I can make something to fit if I knew where it went to.
Google doesn’t show the bit I need

You'll be hard pressed to find that little rod as a spare part.
@neilly came across this problem himself and he did a very good write up on how he addressed the issue which you can find at:-
https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/disco-2-driver-door-lock-broken.306577/
As far as the RF receiver goes, it might be a good idea to check that the connections to and around it are all clean and secure. You'll find the receiver in the roofspace above the headlining, just in front of the rear sunroof.
