Just in case I cannot find my EGR valve for my 2006 TD4 and need to buy one for the MOT.......

Are all Freelander egr valves thesame or are there specific ones for every version of FL1?

all the FL1 / TD4's ( bmw m47r ) will be the same .. afaik ..
have seen a few on fleabay .. used one's from breakers ..

Very sneaky. I am sure my bypass would fail this year.

Most if not all of the ones I have seen for sale on fleabay and similar are Pierburgh valves.

As above it is much better to gut your original EGR and make that into a blank, then it will still look original, spare one are not that dear, also it is not that hard to clean out once a year, at the same time clean the manifold out, and the MAP sensor.

HI hd3
I used a piece of metal round dowel which was the same circumference as the plunger, this was topped off with 3mm of chemical metal, at outer & inner recess, I have heard of people using a few 2p coins as well, I was lucky as I had a small length of dowel in one of my many tins that hold all sorts of bit of nuts bolts etc.

That was when I did my R40 EGR when I did the Freelander one found an old pice of metal that was off a socket bar, I added a bolt through it and filled again with chemical metal inside the EGR, outer was just filed down, you can use any old sockets that you may have lying around? few photo's below, the vacuum end on the EGR I just used a bit of hose with a bit of 4mm all thread or cut of 4mm bolts can not remember which now, this was then attached to the hose coming from the EGr solenoid.

Put some cleaner and a good desiel in a week before and you stand a good chance of passing but the have new rules and the egr must be there.
Just reading through here, but thats good advice even on older petrol vehicles, and on MOT day a nice blast for some miles before arriving in time for the MOT with a still hot engine..
One story from years ago over a mondeo 2 litre Ghia petrol, (a working MINICAB) done my blast as above but failed on emissions, was told to go to an injection specialists to get that checked - nothing wrong so was told it may be the old CAT, so at KwikFit, up on ramps the fitter said nothing wrong with the cat ?? but I protested saying its my last chance now, so, fitters took off the cat, looked inside and -- nothing could be seen inside..lol new cat fitted at £!!! came out, done my blast before going back for MOT - perfect it passed, but the only trouble the car lost about 10 MPH top speed... (may have been a good idea but) this was round about 1999 when i was working friday / saturday / Sunday nights based in "east London" before It went to cr&p and I gave it up learning new skills in my "day job" Working nights only in making stuff for things that fly... till a forced retirement in 2003..

I have since those early days back in 2011/12 when i first did the R40 EGR blank, moved on to using alloy round bar, as here below.

Some blank it off at the cooler, personally i don't like that method it can be seen by any MOT tester.

Of cause all of the above makes no difference if you do not clean out the manifold, and make sure the MAP sensor is also clean.
