The working man (most are car owners) will never be allowed to be better off in this country. We are, and always have been, the easy target. The wealthy, the crooks and the conmen (same thing) will always find a way, and be allowed to avoid paying their dues. I gave up ranting about it a while ago. It will never change, no matter who is in power.

And from today ...

Westminster council is launching a trial of the “D-charge” on pay-to-park bays in Marylebone, and parts of Fitzrovia and the Hyde Park area... It is the first town hall in Britain to impose the surcharge on parking bays...
The hourly charge for all pre-2015 diesel vehicles will be £7.35... All other vehicles will continue to be charged £4.90 per hour...

So if you cant afford a newer car in Westminster, you have to pay more. Seems consistent with their overall strategy.

I can't think that I will have a reason to park in those areas.

That does not detract from the fact that he is a poisonous little git.

Wonder how long until they introduce that on a wider scale. Bunch of pricks.

Maybe instead of repeatedly screwing people who dare to own cars they should actually look at lowering emissions from air travel (instead of expanding airports for more flights) or shipping.

I think similar charges are bing looked at in many places, Internet retailers must be clapping their hands as our city centers are laid to waste.
Why is the only solution to any problem for the government to dip their hands in your pocket and spend it on other things.
Why not give incentives to companies who allow people to work from home 2 days a week, cuts congestion and emissions, oh no let's load up the tax close our eyes and walk away from the problem.
Has congestion tax really improved congestion and air quality in London?

Air travel! Can't interfere with that! Might upset those with private jets!:D

You're right, better take all the tax off air travel and dump that on car owners too. Maybe introduce a seat tax, could tax people for the number of seats their car has, or how many are empty when they are driving around (doesn't matter if you just dropped people off). Neither would surprise me.

I'm surprised that the greedy bastards haven't decided to change car tax so that you can't SORN a car, if you own it you tax it, whether it's on the road or not.

I think a form of the seat tax has been tried in some places. IIRC you can't drive into some cities with only one person in the car. I can't remember the details of that one, sorry!

How about taxing people for the amount of tread they have left on their tyres while also increasing the fines for when it gets too low? :p

Or extra tax for the fattest drivers, because the extra weight causes increased emissions! :D
Hmmm, that may result in extra tax collected from all the guys who would insist on paying more tax so that they could brag to people that it was all crotch weight. :p

No worries, it all helps the balance of payments.
I think we should bring in a bull**** tax for politicians. Any time we all agree that a politician is talking bull**** we get to tax them....but we don't take money.....we take vital organs. The organs then go to people on transplant waiting lists. Sadly won't get many hearts that way, politicians don't have them.

Fine, but don't expect me to have any part of Tony Blair transplanted into me.

Personally , I say tax should be paid on actual emissions over a year. For example my L322 puts out approx 3x my friends Megane. I do 2000 miles pa approx, she does 20000 approx. Therefore she puts out around 3x more gunk than I do. So if the issue is emissions, all veh owners should have to show MOT, or other proof of mileage for new cars, and be taxed according to predicted emmissions based on usual mileage. If for some reason noticably more or less miles have been done by next renewal, refund or higher charge should be applied for that period. Simples :)
That is a clever solution. Pro rata would discourage unnecessary journeys too. Wanna be PM Mate I'd vote for you?
