Well last weekend I replaced the UJ on the front prop that was shot and while under there I had a good look round at the EAS System and saw that 99% of it was there and intact. So after a year of ownership and much reading on the forum of SPOIL IT BY COILING IT I have decided to go back to air. This afternoon I rebuilt the compressor (piston seal shot) and the air dryer (filters and drying agent filthy). Managed to buy a nearly new set of bags for £120 (Dunlop) and the plan is to rebuild valve block next weekend and replace all the airlines. Hopefully this will mean that apart from the drivers pack and the ecu everything will be new as I'm also replacing all 4 height sensors with new items. Once all this is done I plan to remove the springs fit the bags and fire her up. Question one of I'm sure of many is will I have to reset the height values just because I'm renewing the sensors ,i believe that there was a generic set of values set in the ecu and so am I being naïve in thinking that once set up and connected she should rise like the perverbial phoenix from the flames ???

Why replace stuff that probably works fine? Overhaul the valve block, new bags and then see if all good. Lines rarely go unless hole in exhaust melts it. Check the connector behind the passenger A post. Sometimes driver pack connections get a bit funny.

Need 2 height sensors' anyway so may as well replace all 4 and the cost of line is minimal so why not replace it, it just makes another part of the system overhauled

Hi mine is still on coils as it's a new purchase.
My right rear sits lower like 20mm. do you know if they're the same front and rear.
I know they're frowned apon on here but would you consider selling and posting your springs you remove?
Mine has nothing left of the eas system even the lines and height sensors are missing and I'm not in a position work and family wise to rebuild the system for a few months yet.

Coils ain't that bad. It's only a preference. :). Mine was coiled when I bought it and it seems prett good. @OP hope the conversion goes well. Seems like it should be an easy reversal.

You will have to calibrate the ride heights when fitting new sensors.

Also, depending on original faults when she was converted to coils, you may need diagnostics to clear and resef the system before it'll work.

That's a good point. Don't you have to fit something to fool the EAS computer into silence when converting? So that will need reversing.

Stu, the rears are a different length to the fronts.

Yes mate you do. Mine has a plug in module which fools the EAS. Just comes up as EAS manual on mine when I start it. I imagine you'll have something similar.

yes will remove the overide which is under the drivers seat. Just removed the valve block and the first thing i notice is that the metal collet's which the airlines go into are almost falling out on mine and can be pulled out by my fingers. Should there be o rings on these and is there only 1 o ring sat in the block that they go into ????

thanks just looked on Paul's p38 site and followed rebuild section. Saint mentioned I would have to reset the ride height calibration for new sensors but if they are to remain the standard settings set in the ecu is this necessary??. Is it not the ecu that sets the height and only the sensors which tell it its there. Sorry if that sounds crazy but new to this EAS system and can see if that's not correct will have to spend a fortune on a dynostics which could scupper the rebuild.

Default settings in ECU are just that, defaults. They may or may not give you the correct level ride height due to variances in sensor output due to positioning. Diag can be had for around £20.00 and use of a laptop. Contact Datatek on here for lead and software think he still does it.

cheers wammers I was beginning to think it was going to cost another couple of hundred Quid on nostics. Is it still advisable to stick to my original plan and rebuild what is possible and then put the bags in fire her up and see what happens?

Yep do that you may get lucky. But nothing will happen if there are any stored hard faults in the ECU. They will need clearing first.

ok will do will the diag you mentioned above clear those or will it need something more. I suppose its a case of fire it up suck it and see.

No the EASunlock software will do everything you need on EAS. Once you get the hang of using it that is. NEVER EVER change any EAS settings unless you make a note of what the settings were before you change them, is the first rule.

I take a photo with my phone first.

The dimensions for the blocks you need to calibrate are in the Technical Archive section.
