What have you done to your Freelander today

Yay - got a new 12 month IPO (MOT) - had a slight trauma yesterday as the high level brake light was N/F - so was the R/H/S reversing light. - Oooh I though - bulbs - no such luck - both wiring - yet simple solutions ONCE the R/H rear side cover was removed (PITA !)
The rev light was the multi-plug loop connector with slight corrosion the two green / brown terminals .. the brake light (High Level) was a squirt of servisol in the multi-plugs to the rear door.

Anyways - go for MOT (IPO) and worries about permanent 4WD and brake testing - no need to - full MOT - used the latest inertial suspension testers - the 'shake rattle n roll' wheel plates - amazing kit -! .... senses the input deflections via accelerometers and checks any corresponding differences in reaction which details ANY non planned movement in the suspension - amazing ! !
All mod cons. !.. even shifts the suspension 1" or more laterally with a fixed other side - hell of a test of suspension bushes.... poly would simply fail - but that is a different topic. ;)

Got to brake testing - I explained in my best Portuguese - which is actually not the best - that the vehicle was AWD - the guy said no worries - but, in Portugal that often means 'cling on and cry'
Yet - to my amazement - he pulls out a hand held unit (with printer) that replaces the old Tapley meter - this has accelerometers in 3 axis ! - goes for a drive with heavy braking and hand brake tests and prints off the results - he can even tell if it pulls to one side.... !"!!!!!
Takes a look under the bonnet - is impressed it is like new - actually says so and shows his mate !.... :)
Passes with flying colours...
Kudos to the IPO (MOT) here - the latest and greatest test gear and superb attention to detail..

The high level Brake light will probably stop in a few days lol :)

Is this the same in the UK or are they still using IRD stressing brake rollers ? :(
 
they can be fitted to anything. my L takes a while to warm up this time of year, my Td4 has one and it appears to work too which is nice, must test it properly though
You need an Eberspacher really - hot air ducted - not via liquid.
FAR FAR better solution - often available cheaply from commercial units.
Used to use them on our Yacht. Nice bit of kit - diesel fired - simple to use. thermostatically controlled.
Water units are so - errr so --- poor - in comparison.
 
Replaced the coolant bottle, got the hairline cracks around the filler neck along with evidence of coolant leaking. Second one in 24k miles hope this one lasts a bit longer.
 
Updated my center console to facelift version.

New and actually black scuttle panel and door handles to be fitted today.

Most of UK will be using 2 wheel rollers for 2wd only. Tapley meter for 4x4. They only need to update test kit when forced to. FL1 in 4x4 will roll off a 2wd only roller. The stress is far less than the stress/power yer give it oft road.

Managed to get my genuine armrest and all trims for a astonishing price of £8 from my local U pull it. I am amazed for prices there. Couple of good freelanders there so if You local there is a place.

After cleaning and assembling will be ready to get fitted. There is blanking plate for front screws and rear socket with ashtray. also handbrake gaitor not included in pics. Hope it's straight fit. Bit worried about handbrake fitting but we will see.

I didn't realise you could buy a Freelander without a centre armrest. Where are the leccy window switches?
 
My 5 doir came with a spartan centre console without armrest because my rear windows are manual. So radio console have two switches for front windows and one for tailgate. Also have central locking switch and two blanks. Due to me not having wiring for armrest console ( or I can't find it yet) I have kept all switches and blanks in place just to cover all holes. Armrest came from 3 door so only two switches and 3 blanks. rear power socket and ashtray(not sliding anymore) are intact. Also have all blanking covers for screw fittings and only thing is missing is top rubber insert with logo. Try to find it on ebay. 1 hour and it has been fitted already. And looking coool:p:cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool:

And I think 8 quid is a real bargain
 
Took the hard top off, cleaned the years of dirt and off. Treated all the rubber seals with some vinyl gel revitalizer and refitted. Ran a hose over it and no leaks. So just need to dry the carpet now. :)

Mine had the basic naked handbrake section. My center console had the front two electric windows, sunroof, door locks and tailgate window swtiches. I've since gotten hold of one of the cubby box armrests, extended the switches and now my center console is free'd up a tad... fitted the facelift center console ready for a nice touchscreen double din to go in :D

The full hight console/ armrest is only needed if the rear windows are electric, or the front seats are heated. For Freelander's with only electric front windows and no heated seats, there are enough spaces in the front console.

That's a nice looking FL1. If you were closer, I'd be tempted to take a look myself.
Does it have the heated front screen?
The V6 alternator can whine for years without an other issue;)
 
It does have a heated front screen but only the passenger half works.
The voltages check out ok so it must be the screen itself that's broken somewhere.
It is nice. I'm half tempted to keep it for a manual conversion project, unfortunately we now have 5 cars and my work area has been hijacked by the kids as a barbecue/party area, so that one is getting harder to argue for.
One day I'll have a barn to work in and it'll be full of Frankenstein-esque monsters :)
 
Got a new MOT - no advisories. Two new rear tyres fitted and changed the VCU. The old one seemed fine but the Landy has 101,000 on the clock and didn't want to chance it going and taking out the IRD. The new one, OEM manufactured by GKN, was only £336 with another £80-odd for the bearings so it seemed cheaper than risking the IRD...
 
Sitting in Christchurch airport having a coffee having dropped the Freelancer off for a WOT. son followed in the backup Starlet . As we walked away from the garáge he says "what's wrong with the car?". "Why?" I says . "Cos it chucked out a load of smoke" :) L Series Rocks, we were rrunning late :)
