Just got back from Birmingham where my Mrs found this for sale yesterday.

Looks OK, 54 plate auto sport Td4, 3dr, leather seats, heated front screen.

Needs a few minor scuffs sorted, 3 new tyres, off side wing mirror glass, CL fixed already ( new battery ).

I heard a noise and vibration when at 50mph which disappeared at 60 mph, having read a few posts I suspect CV joints, certainly wasn't violent and I felt OK in it.

Drove absolutely fine on the way back, everything works as it should apart from the airbag light is on, so will get that checked out.

Think we payed a bit too much for it, but this ticked all her boxes, and every time I have found one they are gone 121K miles £2500.

Quite happy with the purchase, and we may have a new member....

Tyres, front two the same, rear both different and borderline, spoke with the Mrs tonight to get all five tyres done to the same spec due to the effect we could have on the VCU.

Having driven it for 120 miles, mainly on the motorway, at a constant speed, very happy with it.
Did a full lock reverse check, as soon as pressure on the brake peddle was released she moved, so I guess that is good enough for the VCU check.

Mine looks like a tonka toy compared to this..
 
Motorway with borderline rear tyres with reasonable fronts is asking for trouble in the VCU/ IRD department. It would have been sensible to switch the tyres over before the journey began.
Getting new identical tyres is a good plan.
The reverse check it worthless as a VCU check. The one wheel up test is far more useful to you. ;)

The Range rover section has 31,985 discussions 367,800 posts for a vehicle that has been in production from the 1970,s. Freelander section has 23,879 discussions 275,438 posts for a vehicle that started production in 1996. Which one would you say is more reliable? Like what you have by all means, but don't try to say they are the most reliable car in the range, if you have one being in the AA makes perfect sense. :D:D:p

The thread count is irrelevant when it comes to high priced vehicles like RRs. Most owners simply take them to a dealer when they break. They aren't likely to come onto a forum for help ;)

Wammers, thanks and yes we are members of a breakdown service comes with the insurance. always makes sense to have breakdown cover, think we are getting it for the boat as well.

NOG68, I would have preferred to change tyres before making the journey, however advert said all in good shape, so wasn't prepared at 16:30 on a sturdy afternoon to locate somewhere close enough. having said that the last two new to me FL's have been letting air out, a wheel refurb sorts this out, having been out and had a better look at the wheels, I think we will get these done as a matter of course, tyres changed at the same time, will probably get that done next week.

She still has her mini clubman to use, so not under any pressure now its here.

I have just bought a fuel tank cradle and rear diff mount ( poly ) for mine, but think I will take this in to the garage and get them to give it a proper once over, a garage I trust btw, seen all sorts of classic vehicles in there and they do HGV's, plus as an added bonus its the yard that I leave my vehicle in whilst away at work. Wammers you may know it 'Millers of Langton' sadly I have no garage and no drive.

I had a look at the service record all seems good apart from the last 3 years (30k) no proof of servicing so thats another thing to get done. Engine looks and sounds sweet, quieter than mine ( one year newer plus another 16k ).

I know the VCU's are an Achilles heel, but would be happy to change it should it need doing, at least nothing major to be done to this one.

Does anybody know where I can buy a poly bush set for FL1 ? I have had a look around found rear diff mounts but not the others, I would like to replace all bushes with poly.

Or, leave them on the drive or in a shed.... :D

The Hippo is great - errrrr (apparantly:() providing you don't have a TD4, a KV6 or a K Series or a duff vcu or incorrect tyre set, or fail to maintain it........ lol :)

I ment swap the wheels front to back before the journey. The Freelander must always have the least worn tyres on the rear. ;)

Ploly bushes are available on Ebay in complete suspension sets. They are generally sold under the Britpart name but they'll be made by someone else. ;)
 
Thanks Nodge, I get what you mean now, pretty sure the nearside rear is losing air. will check air pressures in the morning then go and get a quote for refurb and tyre replacement. Tyres on the front seem OK, £53 each, Landsail SUV multiseason, so might go with 3 of these. However I know good tyre are better in the long run, saying that the Mrs only travels 6 mile a day for work, and we normally go everywhere else in mine, 60 mile round trip to the boat maybe so I don't see a great importance at the moment. Wheel refurb will be about £350. It made a world of difference to my commercial.
 
My understanding was that the Freelander was LR's most successful vehicle in terms of volume since it was introduced in 1997, and remained so until 2014, only to be overtaken the Evoque, which I think most RR owners will consider not to be a RR.

The http://www.dunsfoldcollection.co.uk/collection/freelander/guide starts with saying "The Freelander was an immediate and massive sales success, quickly overtaking the Discovery as Land Rover’s best-seller".

But since you asked if I was sure about more FLs being sold than RR, to back up the impressions I had always got from various articles about LR and the sales success of the FL, such as the one above, I went and did a quick google search to see of there was any concrete information on sales figures.

JLR has the figures since 2008 that consistently have the FL selling more units than the RR. http://www.tatamotors.com/investor/volumes/

Finding information for years early than this would take more digging, but a typical couple of years of sales from the FL1 era appear to be as follows:

YR 2000 FL= 20,758 RR= 3,433
YR 2001 FL= 24,810 RR= 3,545

I'm not doubting the RR has sold huge numbers too over the years, for according to http://www.lrfaq.org/FAQ.3.history.html the older Range Rover Classic sold a total of 318k units during its lifetime. But other sites also have the FL2 as selling over 300k in 5 years as well, and the FL1 as being Europe's top selling 4x4 from its introduction through to 2002.

So, after spending a few minutes checking some of the facts to my original comment, I'm still fairly certain that more FL units have been sold than RR, even with the RR having been in production over a much greater period of time.

But in any event, there is a simple reason as to why there are more FL posts on here..., which is that we need to talk about what colour to dye our hair, and what nail polish will go best with our new shoes ;-)

I suspect it is true, the FL outsold the RR 4 to one. So by that we can safely say, more Freelanders, more posts. ;) The low value of the Freelander helps keep owners wanting to DIY, hence post numbers one ere;)
Looks at how many D3s owners post there problems in the Disco section, very few. Yet the number D3s on the road are way more than D2s. The D3 is now 10 year's old, yet no one posts problems.
It's still to expensive for most forum frequenters;) The rr is no different from the D3, hence low post counts ;)
