Ok so ive posted here
,http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f9/possible-new-owner-few-questions-218589.html

then found this part of the forum :)

ok soo its been a while since registering , and what with famiky problems ive finally had the time to go buy a td4 - 3 dr .....
driving home today and all was good and rather quiet .... hit the motorway and hit seventy , then i gets a weee bit of vibration .. well ok was much morethan weee it was rather annoying .... realy bad between 70 and 80..
got near home and popped into local tyre place and had front tyres balanced. apparently they were realy far out.. for what its worth he said 20 would make the car shake and both the front wheels were between 90 and 110 out on the balancing

went for a blast up the motor way and all is sweet... went home to give the car a clean in and out
tested the descent button along with every other button .. all seems good .. except for rear wiper but ill get to that in a bit

mrs came home and we went shopping.. its noisy now in the td4... loud hum , deep whining noise but seems to be drivng fine ? wondering if ive done something when putting in decent mode ? maybe its still holding back on that abit ? i dunno
i definetly turned it off seems to becoming from the middle / rear

hopefully some one may point me in the right direction , what to check and where to look ?
i know i may not have described this very well but im trying

any one close to manchester to have a looksy ?

2nd fault , i knew when i bought it.. the rear window wont move and a wire has snapped inside and a white plastic tube and spring lying inside the door , is this possibly a easy fix ? door operates fine , just the glass is on the outside of the seal... i believe this may be possible fix with a brake cable ?

3rd .. rear wiper aint working

any help and or advice would be great

thanks

dave

This bit of the forum is for emergencies if you get stuck in a bog somewhere and need rescuing or breakdown and need a tow home.

Sounds like vcu and as Sue has stated correctly this section is for Emergencies.
I feel your get better advice on a fault and local help possibly in the freelander section.

Save you typing again I will move your thread.

54321 and we are in the freelander section.
I suggest you look at the VCU test the freelander boys recommend and IRD checks

any one local to me i could pop and see or come to me to look at the freelander and see what the problem is ? will pay etc :)

thanks

dave

If you need to change the VCU support bearings I'd be looking to change the VCU at the same time if high mileage and not previously been changed.

number gone , cheers for that :)

it is high mileage , well 173 with full service history ...

i know its had rear shocks , alternator , top ball joints and 2 x track rod ends in last 2 year

maybe the sound im getting is nothing to worry about , just like someone to possibly have a look and make sure .. plan is to get a full service next week , but like to get this checked first :)

if any one able to have a peek :)

I'm not 100% sure but I dont think the rear wiper will work if the electronics thinks the rear window isn't fully shut. If your mechanism is broken it might think it is open.
If this info is wrong I am sure someone on here will put me right.

Take it for a short drive (a mile or so) and check to see if the vcu is hot.

Mine was and had a whining noise around 50mph, replaced vcu and carrier bearings and all is good.

i'm not back in Manchester until Tuesday, i could have a look for you then if that would be of any help

hi , thanks for the reply.. sound goes when no throttle and can hear from about 20 mph onwards

Unlikely to be the VCU support bearings then as the noise would be there all the time. If its only there when under load I'd be more inclined to the view that the IRD or diff pinion bearings were on their way out. You could try removing the props and VCU and see if the noise goes if it does then this will prove that the front and rear CV joints are OK.

That was my next suggestion, drop the prop and see. Also check the tyres on the rear have the greater circumference than the front

any one able to help check every thing over ?

i know the big hoses at the front were coverd in sh$t but ive cleaned those and they stayed clean...

any volunteers to help check all is ok :) dont mind travelling :)

ok so had th freelander looked at today .. ok so this is how the part was described that i need as was quite a bit of play

rear prop shaft , front universal joint ( described as bean can with a million nuts ) lol

atleast i know where the problem is and can be fixed asap as soon as i find the part .. are these expensive ?
