Replaced the engine in the disco a little while ago, and changed the clutch parts while I was down there (valeo) but not the slave cylinder because it didn't turn up on time and I needed the car back on the road.

All working smoothly but then I started getting a judder pulling off, so thought got to be the slave cylinder, changed that and found the dust cap was holding a load of fluid ..

I sprayed a load of brake cleaner in there and the judder went but then comes back until I spray more in.

Will there be residual crap that's left in there that ends up back on the clutch?

Yep,
Fine after i leave it overnight .. then judders after about half hour of driving so somethings getting on it.
I didn't see any signs that the oil seal was leaking when I had it out, could it just be the leaked clutch fluid still in there and getting on to the plate as I drive?
Spray more brake cleaner till it stops?

you could try slipping the clutch for a minute or two, that might burn the oil of the plate, but be careful you don't over do it.

rarely are the clutches oil contaminated, usually just worn

Vale are generally considered a reliable brand. Perhaps suggestions of what the problem is if it's unlikely to be hydraulic fluid on the plate would be helpful

fluid contamination would require quite a lot of fluid much more than clutch hyd system contains, either flywheel is in a very poor condition or clutch plate isnt as good as could be, oil contamination gives slip before judder, odd you question my posts as usual

I wasn't questioning your post I was asking for more detail as my understanding is limited and personal gripes aren't very useful to the OP.

I'm guessing only removal and inspection will tell but so far as I'm aware there is very little complaint about Valeo so it would seem flywheel is suspect.

I haven't a clue why spraying cleaner would help though?

The only case of bad judder I've investigated personally turned out to be the friction surfaces breaking up which I don't imagine likely with a new clutch.

I drove it for about 20 ish mins yesterday and had no judder at all, if the clutch was bad wouldn't it judder whenever I drove it?
I don't mind having to get the engine out again as I don't think it wouldn't take too long second time round now but I'd rather not :)
Flywheel seemed like it was in good condition, had no issues when I drove the scrap disco .. Nor any clutch issues in this disco before changing, mated with the gearbox very easily so I can't imagine aligmment was off.

And then it definitely gets better when I spray brake cleaner, litterarly goes from a very bad judder to very smooth as soon as you spray some in the bellhousing hole.

I would think that it may be providing a bit of lubrication to mask the "sharp" bits, (by sharp bits I mean the grabby spots) that are causing the shudder, but as it evaporates fairly rapidly the effect does not last.
The problem could even be due to a few small spots of grease flung from the pilot bearing area, we need to know if any oil or grease was used on the pilot bearing upon assembly?
Is the wading plug out of the bottom of the bellhousing? As JM has already indicated, and from experience I agree, it would require a lot of fluid/oil level in the bellhousing to give contamination of the clutch plate in a static situation, even harder to do with the engine running with centrifugal force keeping stuff away from the friction faces.
If it is indeed too much of an annoyance to drive with the "judder", the only way to fix it properly is remove the 'box once again, unfortunately there is no quick fix.
