under bonnet fuel filter and egr question

as part of my service for the TD4 I was going to change the underbonnet fuel filter, but looked all over for it, read somewhere that it is around the battery/fuses area....cant see a thing, also having just done an EGR bypass(all seams well) the one side that the vacuum pipe used to fit onto on the old unit will still push onto the new bypass thin arm, BUT this small arm is drilled straight through, presumably to fit a boost gauge (the seller said), so will it change anything if I just connect the vac pipe to it or should I blank off the thin arm altogether and also blank off the vac pipe ?

If the car your talking about is the one in your heading it has the fuel filter under the drivers rear wheel arch liner and I would say the pipe should be blanked off hope it helps

Yep, blank both the Vacuum pipe and stub off.

The fuel filter is indeed behind the rear offside wheel. They're a bit of a pain to remove from the assembly. I had to use a hammer and piece of wood to tap the filter out of the holder.

Well worth doing though as the fuel was really dirty.

Cheers Platty and Zippy for your advice, happy with the EGR, not so happy with the fuel filter location.

Fuel filter and fuel pump in the same area not that bad to work on once you have removed the rear wheel & peeled back the wheel arch liner, you can remove the unit whole and then change the filter much easier, I now carry a spare unit with fuel pump and fuel filter fixed so if and when I need to change one or the other I will just change the whole lot over.

While you are in there clean/drain out the fuel sedimenter pics attached Arctic2

Yes it can be drained with removing it from the car, drain it into a container until you can not see any water in the diesel more photo's of it off the car below Arctic2
