Getting the front timing cover off?

Anyone? I've got a lot of the car apart, but the front timing cover is absolutely stuck fast.

Checked I've got all the bolts out twice. I have.

Is there a knack? Lump hammer? Heat? Keep going with a block of wood and tapping?

Help!

If you are sure you have all the bolts out. Gentle persuasion is the way forwards.

How do I gently persuade it? There's nothing to gently lever upon, I've got a rubber mallet I've tapped with but it isn't helping.

The only other thing I can do is grab it with my hands and wiggle, jiggle, and pull, but thats not had any effect so far…!

Remeber it is located with dowels so downward bashing will do little!

I know the block is ali, but using a screwdriver with a sharp(ish) point as a wedge may be the order of the day, just go gentle and tap it in the join then try again in another position, and then again, underneath the car, keep going round and round until you can get it to pop off!

Any minor surface damage can be rubbed down afterwards, as long as they are not deep gouges, you'll be fine!

Count the bolts...should be nine of them!

Trust the sump is off, oil pick up is off, oil pipes are off, etc etc

9 bolts all recorded positions in a sheet of cardboard, sump is off, oil cooler and pipes are off, it all off!

I'm going to get an early night, and have another look tomorrow. I have a wide screwdriver I can have a tap with.

I suppose tapping near the bolt holes will reduce the chance of scratching the mating surface.

I'll double check the bolts and everything else. It's the end of a long day and I might be mistaken.

There is a difference between the bolts to undo in the V8 overhaul manual, compared to the Workshop Manual…

Also, I'm absolutely sure my camshaft sensor is held in with a clip rather than just bolting on, and the clip that holds the connector is on the left.

EDIT.

Right I see, the lower diagram is for the Thor engine. I may have removed bolt 7 and left in bolt 8 (on lower diagram).

Bugger. Lucky I didn't whack anything too hard!

Working bent over the slam panel, can take its toll, take a fresh look in the morning, some of the bolts are done by feel and easy to miss.....if you really do get stuck, you have my number, Twickers is only 25-26 mile or so from me so could run down and take a goosey!
